It’s in good shape, but the finish is tired, and there are several broken pieces that are simply unacceptable for a toddler’s room. We've got a drawer full of unruly extensions cords that we've been trying to unsuccessfully keep in order with rubber bands and twist ties. While looking for cable management solutions, we found a tip about using a cardboard roll for cable storage and thought we'd give it a try... The version shown on Unclutter struck us as a fine idea, but it was missing a little something-something. Call us extreme aesthetes, but we wanted to make our cord holder a little more attractive (it's the Martha in us). We had a remnant piece of decorative wrapping paper we thought would do a fine job of fancying up our version of an extension cord holder. All you'll need is the paper roll, a small piece of wrapping paper, scissors and tape (recommend additional double-stick tape for a nicer finish). We wrapped our roll using one piece to adhesive the paper to the roll, while apply a double-stick tape at the finishing end for a seamless finish. You should have about 1/2" of excess wrapping paper length... See less

For flowers with multiple layers, like the camellia, make rings of small, medium, and large petals. 1.Cut one petal or leaf to desired shape, then cut around it to make the rest. 2.Sew a running stitch through bottom edge of each petal. 3.Tie thread ends in a half-knot and pull tight, bringing petals together. Tie again to knot. 4. Arrange flower pieces: Stack petals on top of leaves, and button on top of petals. Push needle up from back of leaves, petals, and button, then back down through the layers; repeat a few times. Tie off. 5.Place a dab of glue on back of flower and press to barrette. I used a vintage cake stand so I made my first tier so it would fit on the cake stand and you could still see the paper doily underneath. I ended up using about 25 diapers for the first layer. The brand of diaper you use will also make a difference in the number of diapers needed because each brand of diaper has a different a thickness. Step 1: Roll the diapers up starting at the waistband and secure with a small rubber band placed in the center of your roll. I started rolling at the waistband because this is usually where the manufacturer has added some cutesy design. I wanted my cake layers to be completely white without any color showing. You can incorporate the decoration into the cake design if you want but I found that most diaper companies use the color blue and we already knew that the baby was to be a girl. Hello, lunchbox swappers! This week I made replicas of plastic grocery sacks -- another thing that I often see people carrying their lunches in. Because I intended to use mine for groceries, I made these bags out of vintage percale sheets and pillowcases, which I thought would be durable. I thought the percale was also a good choice since it's an easy-care cotton/poly blend. (Regardless of how cute they are, I have no intention of ironing my grocery bags!) The bags have a tie closure at the top, which can be used to tie them up like this: They're each fully lined with a contrasting print. I made the ties from the lining prints, so you could see both prints on the outside of the bags. Most of the bags like this that I've seen have a seam on the top of the handles. I didn't like that idea, since those seams are, in my opinion, kind of clunky looking. I'm talking about phone numbers, street address, and his birthday -- not to mention being able to tell people his full name and his parents' full names. I've periodically tried to talk to him about these various facts, and I've even been successful in getting him to repeat what I say. But it never sticks. I'm pretty sure he just doesn't care. (Bro has better things to do!) And I think that maybe just hearing the numbers and words isn't going to help much. When I stop to think about how I learn and how I retrieve information, I realize that I have to SEE something to remember it. When I need to remember a phone number I don't remember the individual numbers -- I visualize what it looks like on a piece of paper. And as for driving directions?
