(12/14/09) The LUMIX DMC-GF1 is the latest addition to the award-winning LUMIX G Series, which debuts as the worlds smallest and lightest system digital camera with a built-in flash. The LUMIX DMC-GF1 distinguishes itself from previous models with its elegant, compact design reminiscent of classic film cameras, yet builds on Panasonics success with the revolutionary LUMIX G Series of digital interchangeable lens system cameras based on the Micro Four Thirds system standard. With its compact size, user-friendly design and ability to record High Definition (HD) video and take professional-quality photos, the LUMIX GF1 continues to redefine digital photography standards. With its lightweight body, the LUMIX GF1 provides experienced photographers with the ideal digital camera to carry with them at all times. Like its predecessors in the LUMIX G Series, the LUMIX GF1 eliminates the pentaprism found in traditional interchangeable lens cameras. Thus, this mirror-free structure allows Panasonic to...See less

(11/29/09) A noise generator that operates entirely on body resistance. The main circuit board is a left over from a Doomsday Novelty Device which beeps for 5 seconds when a button is pressed. At the heart of a circuit is a Motorola MC14001 U Quad Gate, basically a 4 oscillator circuit to tweak. Various spots on the board have been found to cause nice variations in the resulting sound that the circuit was originally intended to produce. The kit can fit into a very small housing, such as a VHS case, or a Kid's Lunchbox. The included touch contacts create a rugged interface with the board for interesting and expressive sound generation. The projects intent is to be very open ended and easy to personalize while at the same time being quick and reliable to assemble. The instructions include body contact solder points that will modify the sound expressively, however not all the possibilities have been explored; if you want to circuit bend this device further, it will provide ample opportunities....See less

(12/11/08) Laser helps you get straight cuts in paper and fabric Okay, so we're not quite at the point in the future where everyone has their own flying car and, possibly more disappointing, we don't have personal laser cutting instruments. But judging by the way people drive while still on the ground, we're probably not ready for flying cars or laser cutting instruments for that matter. Still, a geek has to dream about such things, right? For now we will go with these Laser Guided Scissors, that will at least help you make some straight cuts. The built-in Laser helps you get straight cuts in paper and fabric, whether gift wrapping or working on a project at home or in the office.See less

(12/11/08) Some kinda paper voodoo! Staples have become a scourge to the office environment. Those shiny metal wires have jammed in thumbs, caught on sweaters, and torn papers. The horrors are just too numerous to mention. Recently, at ThinkGeek World Domination Headquarters, an entire afternoon was spent watching a government mandated corporate safety video that showed, in excruciating slo-motion Tarantinoesque detail, just how terrible accidents with staples can be. ThinkGeek employees, however, rolled their eyes... for they had converted to an entirely staple free environment. We found in our travels a device that staples papers together - without staples! Oh, we're not crazy, this thing is real. This handy (and might we add - environmentally friendly) device cuts a tiny flap in the corner of your paper, and folds it in on itself, tucked in a tiny paper pocket. Sleek, small, and coming in chaotic-evil black, deep blue, and smokey "clear", the Staple Free Stapler can clip together up to five...See less

(12/11/08) Makes the difference between sold and unsold on eBay If you've ever bought anything on eBay, you've probably seen more than a few blurry, out of focus and poorly lit product shots. Hand-held digital cameras in shaky hands, too close so that the flash blows out huge white flares and casts harsh shadows everywhere... What do you do when you come across an auction with photos that look like that? You move on, that's what. That guy just lost a sale. Not because his product was inferior, but because his photography was full of lose. What he needs is a way to stabilize his camera, and improve the lighting, making it brighter and more even. The difference between an eBay auction that makes money and one that doesn't is a professional light-box. Pros use lightboxes to give their product shots a nice white background, diffusing lighting and reducing the harsh shadows that make your product shots amateurish and cheap. We've also included two super-bright halogen lights to further light the...See less

(12/11/08) Imagine Sumo Wrestling With Marbles Sumo wrestlers enter the ring. They focus their minds on the goal at hand. The match may only take moments, but each movement is a calculated battle. They grapple, they struggle, and finally one pushes the other out of the ring. Now take this battle of strength and multiply it by a game of chess, and you have the brilliant Abalone Sumo Marble Game. Just like in Sumo, the goal is to literally shove your opponent (in this case, their marbles) off of the gameboard. Abalone is all about planning and force. You can move up to three pieces together, with a goal to maneuver near your opponent's pieces. If your in-line pieces outnumber your opponent's (say, you have three and they have only two), you can perform a "Sumito" (see image below). This is a special move wherein you literally shove your opponent's pieces over a space. Do it enough times and you can push one of their marbles off the board for good. Shove six pieces off, and you are the Abalone...See less

(12/11/08) A puzzle to reflect on In the future, everyone will only wear silver foil suits with big shoulder pads. We'll all have jobs with the word "space" in front of it (Space Accountant, Space Librarian, etc) and everything will be done with holograms. And in the future, Rubik's Cubes will also be shiny and silver. We tried to suck some from the future (using our ChronoSpatial Vaccuumatron), but something went wrong. We got the cubes, but they are a little . . . well, different. Actually, they are exactly as they should be: silver and weird. While it functions just like a regular Rubik's Cube, the Rubik's Mirror Blocks Cube has different sized blocks - which means it gets very distorted very fast. Instead of puzzling out simple colors, you'll be trying to fight with geometric space, which is great fun. What is also great fun is seeing the look on the faces of others as they fiddle with your cube. Rubik's Mirror Blocks Cube - the future is here.See less

(12/11/08) An Ancient Game of Laser Tag On a recent archaeological expedition near the Great Pyramids of Egypt, the ThinkGeek R&D department made a shocking discovery. The details will be published in a few months, but we couldn't wait to share what we found: the favorite game of the Ancient Egyptians was made of plastic and mirrors, and used lasers. Yes lasers! It was called Khet, and once again it is available for all to enjoy. There are four types of playing pieces, and two of them have mirrors. Game play is simple, and easy to learn, as there are only 3 movement choices. The goal is to eliminate your opponent's Pharaoh. And, you eliminate the Pharaoh just like they did in olden times - by firing a red laser! Each side of the board is equipped with its own laser, which you press after your turn. The laser bounces from mirror to mirror (always shooting off at a 90 degree angle). If the laser hits any piece on a non-reflective surface, that piece is removed from play. If you eliminate your...See less
