Amazon.com: Kiddopatums Wearable Blankets

Highlights: $9.99 - $13.99

A swaddled baby is a happy baby, but swaddling isn't easy. The nurses at the hospital can swaddle your wee one like in a tight little burrito, but at home baby busts right out of your inexpert wrap. Enter the SwaddleMe blanket. It takes no skill to a good snug wrap, so both you and baby can rest easier. It comes in various sizes and materials from thin cotton to thick fleece. This is definitely one I get for new parents whether they register for it or not.

For less than $2, it's a toy that baby never puts down. Perfect when you're out and need to keep your little one occupied. At playgroups all the babies go for this one.

My baby is two and a half now and still loves these. They have her keys for the house and her cars :)

This is another little low-priced toy that's a big hit with babies. Technically it's not a teether, but it's by far my son's favorite toy to chomp on when a new tooth is coming through. It's also easy to take out since it's washable and can fit over your wrist like a bracelet - a mom never has enough hands!

This is my son's favorite toy by far. It has so many parts to turn, spin, push, pull and bang that he never gets tired of it. At first he just pushed the buttons and maybe swatted at a few dials, but as he gets older he always figures out new things to do. We don't hang it on his crib, just leave it out on the floor. Before long he always crawls back over to it.

Our pediatrician lent us this DVD and it was a lifesaver. It teaches 5 simple techniques for soothing a newborn. Some of them helped a little and others worked like a miracle to calm our fussy son. Be sure to watch the Q&A in the special features for more great tips. It's also available on Netflix.

Nosefrida "the...

Nosefrida is a doctor recommended nasal aspirator that removes mucus from your child's nose. It was invented in Sweden by Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists, and has been used by Swedish Moms and Dads for years.

Comments (2)

You know you're a parent when have opinions about snot removal. This products looks weird and very very wrong, but it works wonders. Anyone who's used a bulb syringe knows that they are awful. The nosefrida does the job quickly without needing to go as far into the sore little nose. Plus it's Swedish! The snot never goes into to thin tube, so there is no danger of contact. Use it once and you'll be a convert.

i'm glad the photo is wrong. i look at it and it looks like you, the mother, suck the boogies out of the babies nose and it kind of looks gross.

I bought this as a compact travel stroller to take on a plane trip, but I love it so much I use it almost every day. It's smooth and light enough that you can steer it with one hand, which is invaluable. For an umbrella stroller it has a decent storage basket. Downside is if you try to hang a bag on the handle for extra storage it tips over when you take baby out. When I need to carry a lot of stuff I bust out the big stroller. But for most outings this is the stroller I grab. With one hand.

I didn't realize how great this tub was until I used a different one while staying with family. In the other tub my son kept sliding down and bonking his head, so I had to keep one hand on him at all times. Not ideal. The First Years tub has grippy surfaces and a great design to keep babies upright so they stay put - and above the water. At 8 months my son moved on to the real bathub, but I still miss the ease of this little tub.

There are so many baby books out there it can make your head spin. What works for some babies does nothing for others, so it's hard to recommend a sleep book that works for everyone. But I found this book to be helpful, with different approaches based on your parenting style. My son responded well to the tough love, cry-it-out method but they have gentler approaches and lots of solid advice based on real research. A well-rested child is going to be less fussy and better able to cope with the changes around them. This book has lots of tools to help your baby - and you - sleep easier.

I never would have expected this to come in so handy, but it really has. When my son was still in the little baby tub, having a nice big pitcher made bathtime easier. Now that he's moved to the big tub it's so easy to rinse him and to pour water over him keep him warm. It's also great to play with. A little bath toy pushed inside that big beak keeps a curious baby occupied, which is parenting gold.

I'm not sure who loves the Disco Froggies more, me or my son. They are so much fun as they bob around in the bath with their dancing colored lights. Technically these are for ages 3 & above, but all the small pieces are firmly locked inside and the baby is never unsupervised in the tub so I'm not to worried.

By 8 months my son was outgrowing his infant carrier carseat, so it was time to upgrade. I'm a cheapskate with most things, but a carseat seems worth spending extra on. This seat comes out on top of all the safety tests. The price is hefty, but I was able to find a good deal on a discontinued pattern. (The itself seat was new as could be - manufactured only 10 days before I bought it!) Plus it converts to front-facing, so with the draconian carseat laws that means I'll be getting use out of this for years to come. It's easy to install and feels very solid in the car.

Amazon.com: Gentle Naturals Homeopathic Teething Liquid - 1 Oz: Health & Personal Care

Highlights: Price: $4.79

Comments (1)

It's hard to recommend remedies since what works for one baby often does nothing for another. But this stuff does the trick for my son. And I'm not usually one for natural remedies. It actually took a while for me to try it because the word "homeopathic" conjures up images of hippies trying to heal with positive thinking. I still keep the Orajel handy for dire moments, but these drops are less harsh and very effective. Score one for the treehuggers.

List Comments

definitely going to borrow from your list for my registry.

I'll keep those items in mind when there comes a time where I have to get baby stuff. =)

This is a well thought-0ut list. All the things a new parent wouldn't necessarily think of during pregnancy, but will certainly use once the baby arrives.
