Let's try the formatting on that again.Trying to think of what might be missing... (in the order I thought of them)Rain gear: I highly recommend Frogs Togs Drinks: keeping hydrated is a must, and just water doesn't do it for some people. Thermal underwear: something lightweight and wicking that will be comfortable under PJs or clothes Flannel PJs: Even if your sleeping bag is warm, the cold will find it's way in Wicking underwear: cotton just doesn't cut it sometime Good socks: I recommend Thor-Los. I use a pair of their mountain climbing socks to keep my feet warm at night First aid kit or basic survival kit: many of the items you have in the survival section will be included Swiss Army knife: it's an old standard for a reason Toiletries: all the things you take for granted at home, like TP, even if you don't think you'll need them, like tampons Bear locker or net, if they aren't provided by the campground. Never take food into your tent, even if there aren't bears in that area, because there might be on the next trip and they'll still smell it. Tablecloths: Most campsites include picnic tables which are more sturdy than the fold-up one you'll bring with you, but it's also kind of nasty. Coffee: Premeasured baggies or the single serving bags are wonderful Canopy: for shade over the eating area, kicking back during the day, or taking cover during a shower. Duraflame log or charcoal (and lighter fluid): in case the local firewood fails you (don't bring your own firewood) Tarps! One to put under the tent, and others because they're generally useful Rope, like tarps, generally useful -- I'd take this over a dedicated clothes line. Glow sticks: big ones for some pleasant illumination at night and little ones to mark your guy lines so you (or others) don't trip over them in the dark. I also recommend taking a shakedown trip at a campground close to home to see how all your equipment works and see what you forgot (we learned that ponchos don't cut it as rain gear on our shakedown trip).

@
zow
thanks for the recommendations. i don't know if i will add all that to the list, but everything is definitely helpful. again, this is just a general list. there are a TON of things I would add in addition to what you suggested. I'm really wanting to go backpacking/ camping on the Appalachian trail sometime, so if plans ever get finalized for that, i'll make a new list just for that. :)

If you take all the things on your list, plus all of the things zow added, you'll need a lot more men for the trip. My own personal addition to the list :-)

I wanted to go camping over the summer so bad! My friends and I did camp out in the yard one night...but that was a catastrophe. I love your list. Very well thought out. I think I'll start planning a camping trip for spring:)
