(06/09/07) I am always on the look out for books that can help busy parents come up with creative ways to engage their babies in simple ways that may make a lasting contribution both in their loving relationship as well as help the baby's development over time. This title does both nicely with colorful, inspiring illustrations as well. Especially valued as well is the authors intentionally chose activities that are loosely structured, don't require purchase of special stuff and create the context for a lot of loving interaction between the baby and parrent. (06/09/07) This product is on our list of "must-haves". I've tried a million different methods of swaddling with a regular blanket but after an hour (at most!) our son wriggled his way out of it. And once their arms are out, they wake themselves up constantly. Swaddled in this blanket he's never gotten his arms out, even though it's not wrapped overly tightly. And since their legs can be wrapped in our not, it helps with babies that get too hot or too cold. The "miracle" of this blanket is two extra pieces of material inside that go over their arms and then under their backs. Having seen this I tried doing it with a regular blanket with some success, but it's just never quite right. So cry once and spend the $$. This is the first book that my son insisits in his little 9 month old way of squirming and squealing, that I read to him again and again. I've placed it on his bookshelf in his bedroom and the first thing he does when he wakes up for a nap is holds his hand out in that direction to tell me he wants the book. Same thing before each nap and before bedtime. He is addicted! Every page has a large flap that is easy for little hands to maneuver and there are lot of shiny, sparkly, glittery colors in this book which I think he also finds highly attractive. What I love about it is that it uses traditional French rhymes and songs (as opposed to English ones, translated into French...); it uses repetition in a nice, pleasant way that is never boring; the voices and sound effects are beautiful; and of course, I love that it uses native speakers.
