(09/19/11) This caffeinated concoction starts with fresh roasted pumpkin spice coffee ground and brewed as an espresso. Monin Gingerbread syrup, frothy steamed milk and fresh made gingerbread whipped cream dusted with cinnamon and freshly grated nutmeg complete it. The perfume is a blend of coffee essential and fragrance oils, sweet pumpkin, gingerbread whipped cream, cinnamon and a drop of nutmeg essential oil. Upon application, coffee is the first note to emerge, immediately followed by a spicy cinnamon. After just a few minutes a sweet syrupy scent emerges. The true dry down scent rises after about 15 - 20 minutes on the skin at which point the spice mellows and the coffee, pumpkin and cream all perfectly swim together in a pleasingly balanced brew. This perfume comes in a gorgeous frosted cobalt blue glass perfume roll-on with black cap. Approximately .35 ounces of generous enticing fragrance in a light-weight dry oil base of rice bran oil which is not greasy and makes an ideal carrier oil...See less

(09/08/11) One of ZZ Top's great gifts is its concision; even in the side-long-jam era of the '70s, the Texans almost always fit 10 cuts on their albums. Surveying two decades of their output, Greatest Hits isn't the perfect overview you might expect, but it's still a pretty darn good driving album. The disc goes easy on the pre-Deguello stuff surveyed on their earlier best-of, and seems to digitally boost the drums on tracks like the 1975 "Tush." Still, later cuts like "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide" and "My Head's in Mississippi" are full-on triumphs of this trio's very weird, very blues-drenched sensibility. --Rickey WrightSee less

(09/08/11) The mildly entertaining seventh Hannah Swensen mystery (after 2005's Sugar Cookie Murder) finds our heroine up to her usual tricks: keeping her hometown of Lake Eden, Minn., happily fed with tasty cookies, chatting with her precocious niece and, of course, sleuthing. A movie crew in search of a quaint Minnesota location has landed in Hannah's 'hood, and filming goes smoothly until the director, a womanizing tyrant, accidentally shoots himself on the set. But was his death really an accident? Of course not. Someone nabbed the unloaded prop gun and left another revolver in its place. Between baking batches of Double Flake Cookies and Angel Kisses, Hannah figures out whodunit. What she can't figure out is her personal life. Hannah still refuses to choose between her two beaux. Nerdy Norman and hunky Mike put up with her indecisiveness, but readers are likely to weary of Hannah's by now tedious shilly-shallying. (09/08/11) With The Cookie Jar, Hannah Swensen has a mouthwatering monopoly on the bakery business of Lake Eden, Minnesota. But, when a rival store opens, tensions begin to bubble. As she sits in her nearly empty store on Groundhog Day, Hannah can only hope that spring is just around the corner, and that the popularity of the new Magnolia Blossom Bakery is just a passing fad. The southern hospitality of Lake Eden's two Georgia transplants, Shawna Lee and Vanessa Quinn, is grating on Hannah's nerves and cutting into her profits. At least, Hannah has her business partner Lisa's wedding to look forward to. Unfortunately, Shawna Lee has finagled an invitation to the reception and is bringing her Southern Peach Cobbler for the dessert table. Things go from bad to worse when Shawna Lee and Hannah's sometime-boyfriend, Detective Mike Kingston, are no-shows to the wedding. When Hannah sees lights on at the Magnolia Blossom Bakery after the reception, she investigates, and finds Shawna Lee shot to death....See less

(09/08/11) In her first holiday mystery, Fluke (Fudge Cupcake Murder, etc.) takes her series heroine, Hannah Swensen, amateur sleuth and owner of the Cookie Jar bakery in Lake Eden, Minn., through a delectable culinary romp. Hannah has compiled a cookbook of the locals' favorite recipes, which are to be featured at the Christmas party at Lake Eden's community center. All the residents gather for a festive evening, including Martin Dubinski and his wife of two days, Brandi Wyen, a Las Vegas dancer who's decked out in a new fur coat and antique emerald ring. The couple provide much food for thought and speculation, especially for Martin's mother, ex-mother-in-law and ex-wife. Cleaning up after the dinner, Hannah notices her mother's silver cake knife is missing; soon after, she finds the knife stuck in the chest of the new Mrs. Dubinski, who's lying dead in the parking lot. With her sisters and friends, she goes into action to help Det. Mike Kingston solve the case. Wacky and delightful characters,...See less

(09/08/11) For bakery owner Hannah Swenson, life in Lake Eden, Minnesota, seems to be lacking a certain flavour. It's not that she doesn't enjoy teaching a weekly "Potluck Cooking" class at the community outreach centre. Or that she's not excited about her sister Andrea's bun in the oven - watching the very pregnant Andrea try to sit on a stool at The Cookie Jar is worth it every time. Maybe it's this year's sheriff's election that's got her down. For years, Sheriff Grant's been the iron hand in town. But now, Hannah's brother-in-law Bill is giving the old blowhard the fight of his long, dubious career - and Grant's not taking it in stride, especially once the local polls (and the Cookie Jar gossip) show Bill pulling ahead. But before anyone can get a taste of victory, things go sour. Just as Hannah's emptying the trash, she makes a very unappetizing discovery: Sheriff Grant's body in the dumpster behind the high school where she's teaching her cooking class. And as if that weren't bad enough,...See less

To fight the late February doldrums, Lake Eden, Minn., is about to celebrate its first winter carnival with ice sports on the lake, activities for children and Hannah's delicious cookies from her shop, the Cookie Jar. The whole town is involved, and even Hannah's mother, who usually spends her time trying to get Hannah married, has found a new interest in recreating the home of one of Lake Eden's founding fathers. Connie MacIntyre, bestselling cook book author and star of a popular cable TV cooking show, has agreed to make the cake for the carnival banquet. (09/08/11) Following her successful debut, 2000's Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder, Fluke brings back amateur sleuth and Lake Eden, Minn., bakery owner Hannah Swensen for another delicious adventure. Hannah has the honor of serving as head judge of the first annual Hartland Flour Dessert Bake-off, which she anticipates will be good advertising for her already popular bakery, The Cookie Jar. Then one of the judges, high school basketball coach Boyd Watson, is found dead, face down in Hannah's strawberry shortcake, and suspicion falls on Watson's abused wife, Danielle. Determined to prove Danielle's innocence, Hannah ignores the warnings of romantic interest Mike Kingston, the supervisor of detectives at the Winnetka County sheriff's station, not to get involved. Tempting descriptions of meals served at the local establishments, mouth-watering recipes and a warm family of characters ward off the vividly depicted bitter chill of a Minnesota winter. While the other characters tend to be stereotypical,...See less

(09/08/11) Hannah Swensen, amateur sleuth, runs an eat-in cookie establishment in little Lake Eden, MN. When the well-liked milkman is murdered in the alley near her shop, Hannah joins forces with the deputy sheriff, who just happens to be her brother-in-law. (09/08/11) Newly remarried Harry Harristeen, full-time farmer (and amateur sleuth), is excited about the upcoming holidays, but her spirits are dashed when she finds a dead monk at the Christmas-tree farm. Of course, Harrys three cats, Mrs. Murphy, Tucker, and Pewter, are just as interested as Harry in uncovering the murderer, whos wrecking the holidays for everyone by killing off the seemingly selfless monks. This series is just about as formulaic as cozy mysteries can be, but its a formula that works, and this entry is just as fun and satisfying as the rest, from the sassy dialogue between the animals to Harrys dedication to solving crimes, even when it means risking her own safety. The secondary characters, from husband and equine vet Fair to friend and deputy Cooper, provide a solid backdrop to the story. Demand will make this an essential purchase for all mystery collections. --Jessica Moyer --This text refers to the Hardcover edition. See all Editorial ReviewsSee less
