Here's What You'll Need +flat-backed clear marbles (commonly found in the flower arrangement section of a craft store) + very strong magnets + silicon sealer (glue) + plain white cardstock + good quality craft glue + scissors and/or utility knife + a variety of images, with ink that won't run + a circle template (if you've got one) Here's How You Do It Start this project by finding your images. We used magazines. Take some of the flat-backed marbles and use them to judge the image for size and to see how well it will look magnified by the marble. Some of the coolest magnets we made weren't graphic images but just odd looking patterns or bits of an image. If you've got a circle template, use that to match up your marble to a circle size (use the flat part, not the over-all circumference) and use it to cut out the image (you know ... draw a little circle, cut using knife or scissors...). The foundation of each panel is a wonderful thing called foam core. It’s very lightweight and easy to trim with an exacta knife and straight edge. You can buy it at any art supply store. Remember that you will be adding padding and fabric to the foam core, so you have to compensate by about a half inch for the added thickness when sizing the foam core. For example, if you want a panel that’s 30 inches wide, then you should cut the foam core to 29 1/2 inches to allow for the padding and fabric when they’re wrapped around it. You may be thinking here, "How complicated. What if I don’t get the dimensions exactly right? What if I’m off by an inch?" Don’t worry about it. My philosophy is "Close enough." To the naked eye, any mistakes won’t be detectable, and if they are, people will think it’s supposed to be that way. From a practical standpoint, the padding and fabric you add are squishable or expandable, so they will compensate for any irregularities in the foam core sizing. Another pearl... See less

You can use 1 bulb, 2 bulbs or however many bulbs you want. Keep in mind your suction cup must hold the weight. You could | also make these to hang onto a wall hook if you wanted. To hollow out the light bulbs: (sorry no pictures, I tried but they only made it more confusing so I will use the power of WORDS!) 1. Find a light bulb, burnt out or not doesn't matter really. 2. Use a set of pliers to take of the little silver part at the end. Once you get the ends bent up a bit just give it a little wiggle with the pliers and it should come out. 3. Hold the black (which turns out to actually be purple) part over a candle or some sort of flame. You can pick up old vinyl albums from garage sales, flea markets and second hand stores. Begin by placing the bowl upside down (so the bottom of the bowl is facing upwards onto an oven tray. Balance the record on top of the bowl and place it into a preheated oven at 100'C or 210'F for around 5 | minutes. In this time it will become soft and start to droop. Place the oven mitts on and working quickly remove the bowl and the record from the oven. Turn the bowl the right way up and push the record into the bowl to shape it into the same shape as the bowl. You will only have around 30 seconds to work so work quickly, if you are too slow or dont like the shape of your bowl then place it back into the oven and start again. Allow it to cool and its ready to use. You can also use these bowls for planters by drilling a few extra holes into the bottom or better still turn them into a funky hanging basket for either plants or storage. See less
