Can homeschooling work for my student with special needs? Homeschooling can provide a wonderful opportunity for students with special needs to learn in a customized environment through one to one instruction. The homeschooling setting itself provides many of the accommodations students with special needs may be receiving through their Individual Education Program (IEP) such as small group instruction, preferential seating, frequent breaks, extended testing time, and access to a variety of technological assistance. Russell Bede School targets students in grades two through five because early intervention provides the best chance for success. We serve students who have average to above average ability, but are challenged by communication difficulties, language-related learning problems or have alternative learning styles. Because we enroll children without a history of severe behavioral problems, teachers can focus on instruction and students can focus on learning. Our students may or may not have been determined eligible for special education services.
