(10/17/07) Although few readers probably come to this book because it is well-crafted, Roger Lowenstein's prose is superb. This is a great biography. But readers will likely be disappointed if they expect a glimpse of Buffett's investment secrets by perusing Lowenstein's book. Lowenstein never makes the claim that you'll learn to be a better investor by reading BUFFETT. In fact, it appears to be Lowenstein's essential thesis that it is Buffett's firmness of character, as much as his intellectual acumen, which makes him such a fine investor. Whatever one might think of Buffett, it is a rare pleasure to find so well-written and thoughtful a book as Lowenstein's biography amongst the sensationalized and poorly edited biographies of late. (10/17/07) I hate having to roll over at night to see what time it is. I bought this clock so that I could just glance at the ceiling to see the time. Pros: The projection is truly top quality. I love the manual focus which allows me to achieve a sharp display customized for my ceiling height. Furthermore, the display is visible and sharp without creating extra light in the room at night. Cons: It doesn't function well as an alarm clock. First, the radio quality is definitely subpar. But most importantly, the machine itself is reasonably lightweight, and if you roll over to hit the snooze, you are very likely to knock the projection mechanism. Then you will have to readjust it if you want the display to appear at a specific spot on your ceiling. In sum: If you are looking for projection, this is a wonderful product. But use it as a secondary machine to your alarm clock or you will have to continually adjust the projection. I keep this on a shelf and continue to use a different machine as my...See less

(10/17/07) The Cure and a reggae beat certainly make strange bedfellows as, one assumes, do Adam Sandler and a girl with no short-term memory. In that sense, the 50 First Dates soundtrack is a good accompaniment to a fluffy romantic comedy in which one of the main characters is perpetually living in the past. It's also a fitting follow-up to that other Sandler/Barrymore vehicle, The Wedding Singer. (Take a set by Robbie Hart, add a topical shirt, and voilá: a new soundtrack is born.) To those who can't get enough of '80s hits like Bryan Ferry's "Slave to Love" and the Cars' "Drive," setting them to a island beat will likely seem whimsical, charming, and perfect for barbecue weather. For those who are glad the '80s are gone, this CD is a pass. (10/17/07) Assembling a compilation of the Beatles is a difficult task, not only because they had an enormous number of hits, but also because singles didn't tell the full story; many of their album tracks were as important as the singles, if not more so. The double-album 1962-1966, commonly called The Red Album, does the job surprisingly well, hitting most of the group's major early hits and adding important album tracks like "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away," "Drive My Car," "Norwegian Wood," and "In My Life." Naturally, there are many great songs missing from the 26-track 1962-1966, and perhaps it would have made more sense to include the Revolver cuts on its companion volume, 1967-1970, yet The Red Album captures the essence of the Beatles' pre-Sgt.
