With all the stress that seems to weigh down heavily on me these days, (there's just never enough time, is there?) I am continually searching for anything I can do at home to create a calm and tranquil atmosphere. I like to use all of my time off of work to my advantage (who ever said relaxation is only for the weekends??) So, even if it's only the few hours from when I get off work to when I go to bed, I try to enjoy it to it's fullest.
Sometimes, all I need to destress is to curl up with a good book and a pillow, or to cuddle on the couch with my babe and catch up on our favorite shows with Netflix, or to go get coffee with my girls. Other times, I love to indulge in some good ol' self pampering: be it in the form of a foamy, sudsy bubble bath with a glass of red wine, a steamy shower with aroma therapy body wash, or my latest obsession: an at-home pedicure.
This might sound gross, but I've never really been one to do much with my feet. I'm 24, and I've still never had a professional pedicure--not for lack of want, it's just something I never...did. The most I ever did with my feet was to wash them in the shower and then carelessly rub some lotion on them (if I was lucky.) Then about a month or so ago, I read THIS article in Women's Health Magazine. And I decided to give the at home pedicure a shot.
I love it. It's one of my absolute favorite new guilty pleasures. It feels so good to let my feet soak after a stressful day, and then to exfoliate them and slather lotion on them in a nice massage. Maybe it's silly...but it makes me feel good and so very blissful. It's my own little taste of vacation-at-home.
Anyway, Bath and Body Works is having their semi-annual sale at the moment, and let me just say I scored big time and probably splurged just a little tooooo much (oh, but just imagine the deals I got and how much more it would have cost if I'd paid full price?? <----- this is what I like to tell myself... :P) Right now, they are having a buy 2, get 2 free special for their True Blue Spa products (which is: an.awesome.deal)! You can get the special online, or in the store.
My advice is hop on this offer with a quickness, and then you, too, can experience the bliss of the spa with your own at-home pedicures!

awe how fun! i remember you being so excited about this stuff. this blog makes me want to go and get some right now! why not post a picture of your feet? LOL jk! thanks for this post. maybe i'll sneak it in sometime this weekend or next... :)
haha..ehhmm..err..i still don't think anyone wants to see my feet! lol.
that sounds great! i've never had a pedicure mainly because i'm uber ticklish :] but i do put a lot of effort into keeping my feet nice and clean because feet are gross. lol avon has a new green tea foot care collection that i'm dying to try!
Yeah, lovelisalove, you aren't alone. I had my first and only professional pedicure ever about 2 years ago (I was 25). I have the same problem as crayola - my feet are SUPER ticklish, which is why I haven't ever gotten another pedicure. I was so worried about the possibility of my foot getting a mind of its own and kicking the poor lady in the face, so, as a way to avoid that and still have somewhat pretty feet, I've been doing the at home pedis since. Honestly, I actually kinda like doing them at home. I can go at my own pace, I don't have to make small talk, and I don't have to make sure my legs are shaved ahead of time!
I like to get pedicures at the salon (I always go to the same one where I know they clean the foot baths well), but this sounds like a great idea! I love the True Blue products, I got a couple of the foot creams at one of their sales a few months ago.
i love this line!!!
Don't worry, you're not missing much from abstaining from a professional pedicure. I got one for homecoming a while back and it was actually really awkward and unpleasant. Mostly because the lady kept yelling at me in a really heavy Asian accent that I could barely understand and flat out refused to make the water any cooler so my feet were cooking in a nicely sented soup pot. Or at least that's how I remember it. :)
ANYWAYS, thank you for sharing your de-stress techniques and that AMAZING sale :D I want to try an at home pedicure now! My nana swears by them, but I've never tried it.
Oh, well, I spelled "scented" wrong, but I'm going to go ahead and say that I was testing you and it was completely on purpose.
@gregsgal: yeah, there's something really nice about doing them at home! it's quiet, it can last as long as you want it too...and you're at home! that's so funny about the shaved leg comment--my friend and i were laughing about that last week!
@amber_sunshine: i always think about getting a pedicure and end up never getting around to it. plus i wouldn't really want to go unless i could go to a nice place because of all the reasons you stated about. oh, dear. haha. but yes you should try it! plus all of the true blue spa products rock, not just the feet ones. glad you enjoyed! :)
OMG I LOVE BATH AND BODY WORKS!
Sounds AHHHHMAZING!! I love pedis...
Great post! And I love Bath and Body Works =]]
I love treating my feet at home! It's a lot less expensive and there are lots of yummy products to try. I only had one professional pedicure (my best friend took me to a local spa), and they massaged our legs and feet and all that good stuff.... it was very nice!!! If I were ever going to do it again, I would go back to the spa and not at a manicure/pedicure shop.
@vntgbabe: i totally agree. if i were going to get it done, i'd want to go to a spa where they do it right haha. the atmosphere at a spa is more..ahhhh relaxxxxx and less..gimme-your-money-upsell-hurry-through-this-so-we-can-get-to-the-next-customer lol. but yes. i LOVE doing them at home cuz i can afford to do them once a week without breaking my bank. plus it's just a nice way to unwind after work or get ready for the weekend after a strenuous week! hehe.
Have you seen these? You can get them at Walgreens for about $10.00. I'm always super interested in them because I like the "hold hands" with my feet (I interweave my fingers with my toes to stretch them apart), but haven't ever bought them...
This sounds heavenly! Thanks for sharing, lovelisalove!
@gregsgal: thanks for the suggestion! those looks awesome. i'd really love to try them...i looooove that feeling of stretching out my toes. thanks again!
sounds awesome! thanks for the info! ill have to try them out! i love bath & body works! :D
Thanks for sharing. I checked out the True blue spa products. I need to do a at-home pedi.
