i KNOW christmas is only 2 weeks away, and right now i'm kinda starting to stress out over my holiday dress, you know, the one i'll wear to all the parties/church services and stuff??
in my styleboard, i put my 4 top contenders. i want a dress that...
~isn't too long
~is appropriate for church
~but not matronly
~i could wear past the holiday season
i would wear the dress with (black?) tights, some simple gold/silver jewelery, a black clutch, and either some oxford or peep toe heels. i'd probably wear my hair in an updo, or i might curl it...
i like the purple one because of the fleur de lis pattern on it. the cut is cute, and purple just so happens to be my favorite color! ;) the houndstooth dress is also really nice (esp. because i'm really into that pattern right now), but i don't know if it would be too casual. the cowl neck would be nice and toasty, though!!
the blue dress also comes in a darker red color.(as you can see, which is a little more holiday-ish) which color would be better??

my doubts about this one: is it too short or shiny to be appropriate at anything bet a party?
the last one is a cute take on the classic LBD, which i know i would wear again and again, but is it too plain??
so, what i want to know is,
which dress should i get (and in what color)?
any other suggestions?
is the rest of my outfit ok?

Wow, this scenario sounds familiar. With all that you described I'd go with the purple one. And even though I love purple too, that has nothing to do with my decision. Remember church is usually casual/come as you are most places on Christmas eve and Christmas day, but I think the blue and/or red dress is too partyish all in all, although really cute. I can't see the previous 2 pictures before the red one. I agree with lamerchick with the blue and red dresses being too party-ish. Nice pop colors, but it's too short. I don't know about the houndstooth. I don't like the design much, but that's up to you. I think both the purple and black dresses would be best. However, the purple dress is bound to show some cleavage. Since you're going to church events, it wouldn't be appropriate unless you're small at the top and it doesn't show. Otherwise, I say go with the black dress. It is simple, but cute because of the puffiness and girly style it has. Instead of a belt, try a white or light-colored ribbon sash with a long gold necklace. Some jewelry (not too much) would make the black dress stand out more.
