12 January 2011

As one of my projects for the new year, I decided to do a 365 project - taking photographs every day of the year.  It's only been (not even) two weeks so far, and I've already questioned my sanity a couple of times, but I think that overall it's going to be a good way for me to learn about composing better images.

For one of the days last week, I decided to do a mini self-portrait shoot!  I decided to make the most of the daylight without actually having to go outside, so I shot all of these with a timer a tripod while lounging on top of the bookcase beneath my bedroom window.  I wore a silk slip, a petticoat from years and years ago (first communion?  maybe maybe?  have I really not grown since then?) and a soft wrap hand-crocheted by me.  Here are two of the photos from the shoot, and there's another one set as my profile picture.

Even though it's a lot of work to shoot and process images everyday, I hope that I can stick with it because I think it'll be a great way to document the year.

(Incidentally one of the other projects I've undertaken for the new year is colouring and cutting my own hair.  So far not too disastrous, although I'm still being safe here and learning while it's still socially acceptable to wear a hat all the time, just in case.  I'm not sure that there are too many ways to mess up a choppy pixie!  If there are, I'm sure I'll find them out and let you know!)

I hope that everyone's new year is off to a great start!

  • I am sooo inspired by your committment to creativity. Your pictures are lovely, and I know you will gain so much in the next year. Your hair is lovely. I have been cutting my own hair since I was sixteen. Everytime you do something yourself that often you pay people to do....make your top, color and cut your hair, take a portrait picture you gain a feeling of independence and creativity and you feel sooo good. HURRAH FOR YOU!!! Report Spam Posted by paws72 at 11:37 PM on 01/15/11

  • I've been wanting to take part in a 365 project. I've never really considered myself a photographer, but I think I could twist that definition to include me if I really gave it a shot. It's something I really do enjoy, and like you said, a 365 project would be a really fascinating way to document your life.I love your hair! We seem to have a similar cut - but I did pay someone to get mine done. Maybe I'll try cutting my own next time. :) Report Spam Posted by sammieclaire at 4:22 PM on 02/23/11

  • You're gorgeous (I can't believe you cut & color your own hair - wow!) and I always like the photography that you post. I hope to see more of your project on here. :) Report Spam Posted by weslee at 11:43 PM on 02/23/11
