  Haha! I was the same in highschool, with my J. Crew. At my school people either 1. Hadn't heard of it or 2. Thought it was snobby, because I come from a rural area. J. Crew is the best for wardrobe staples that you want to last and look classy.   I agree with @emyko, J Crew has always been well-known. Personally, I don't like it very much because I have more of a street influenced style, and my idea of classy is Chanel, but they do have great tanks.
