The Atlanta International Home Furnishings Market

68 ›
Jan 10, 2010 in Home & Beyond
First off, I've been gone for a week, so thanks so much to everyone who commented on my lists and blogs while I was gone, and I swear I'll get caught up on all the requests waiting for me - can't wait to see them!

Where was I?  I was in Atlanta on a buying trip for spring, and it was so exciting to see all the new trends for the home, I thought I'd share!

Grey is the hot color - especially with lavender or burnt orange.  It gives incredible depth and richness to the purples, and makes you think maybe it's time to start taking orange seriously.  Really great combinations!

Burlap pillows.....everywhere!!!  This is part of the trend toward the earthy and unpretentious turned gorgeous (along with beautiful natural wood finishes, muslin, moss, etc...)

French industrial (again) - For the last couple of years we've seen more and more of this popping up - rough woods and tarnished metals.  It's a great look, in small doses, but I was a little disappointed at how much of it I saw at market.  There were few showrooms that didn't feature quite a bit of it, and it was tiring after awhile.  We'll carry one or two pieces, because it definitely adds interest, but I think it was way overdone this year.

I'm exhausted from 5 days of running from showroom to showroom to find the perfect furnishings and accessories, but it was a fun and successful buying trip and I can't wait for spring!

How about you guys....any thoughts on these trends?

  • I like the trend for grey. I'm not sure if I'll buy more of it, but it might make me rethink the grey things I already have. Yesterday I hearted someone's pick of a yellow blouse trimmed in grey. What I liked is that the contrasting color next to grey made it look lavender. So it can be interesting next to other colors, as you said...Also on Saturday I bought a throw pillow on clearance at Pier 1: the background color is grey and it's piped with hot pink. I was buying more for the shape and decorative details, but now it's interesting to notice that it's grey, almost like negative space. Interesting trends. I like natural textures, but burlap is a little too rough for me to appreciate. OTOH I'm thinking of buying some jute rugs. The natural textures do say, "Spring!" • Sounds like fun, and I love your insights into what's coming onto the market. Thanks for sharing! Report Spam Posted by lavabunny at 8:46 AM on 01/11/10

  • I'm loving grey right now. And I do like the idea of pairing it with a nice orange, like tangerine. Burlap pillows: i like the look, but i do think it would be a little rough to use for something to lounge with. And French industrial. I've begun to really like it, and I like seeing accents of it, but I'm with you.... There comes a point when something is overkill and then No Good. Sounds like you enjoyed your trip to the South. :) Report Spam Posted by anna_panda at 9:26 AM on 01/11/10

  • All three are very lovely but I am most intrigued by the gray patterned with a pop of color. That picture reminds me of a room I once saw in Seventeen magazine, I forgot the name (femme something), but it was done all in violent, lavender, black, and gray. It may sound like a lot for a room but it was absolutely gorgeous!Oh and props for visiting my hometown, don't you just love Atlanta, lol, I do! ;] Report Spam Posted by cortnez at 3:06 PM on 01/11/10

  • Great post! I have also been loving gray, it seems there is a shade to compliment every color. I love how subtle and sophisticated it can be. I have also been noticing deep orange as a trend (in the greater world of design) and I'm surprised how much I like it. I'm making an orange-themed styleboard now. Is the last picture an example of French industrial? I think it looks pretty fun, but it's new to me. Your job sounds like the most fun ever. Report Spam Posted by emyko at 4:03 PM on 01/11/10

  • I love the wooden dresser in the first picture, it's stunning. I'm glad you mentioned that gray is a new trend in interiors, I am trying my best to convince my fiance that a pale dove grey is a good colour to paint our new house, but he's not convinced. I'll have to show him this post! Report Spam Posted by x0xsharicex0x at 1:39 PM on 01/12/10

  • What a spectacular post! I feel like I just got so much info in a short burst. I am all about gray myself, right now. (Except fashion accessories; I'm into nudes) Thanks for sharing. Report Spam Posted by miss_daphne at 6:30 PM on 01/12/10

  • grey is a great neutral, though i never would have thought to pair it with burnt orange -- and judging from the pic, i think they look fabulous together. thanks for sharing! Report Spam Posted by sadgummibear at 3:06 PM on 01/15/10

  • I love grey with purple. One of my favorite outfits is s grey skirt with a purple pullover. :) Anyway, I really like the first picture, not so sure on the burlap pillows yet, sounds scratchy, and the industrial look, I'm not so fond of, and it can get way overdone too easily. Thanks for sharing! You have such a wonderful job. Report Spam Posted by lamerchick at 7:41 AM on 01/25/10

  • I really love that image of the grey with burnt orange, and the wheeled shelving..talk about easy to rearrange the room! Thanks for sharing this love! Report Spam Posted by toshiba1 at 7:22 AM on 01/27/10

  • Ordinarly I'm not a big fan of orange, but the combo in the first picture is great. Sounds like the trip was a blast! Report Spam Posted by nobodymesseswithadamwe at 3:56 PM on 01/27/10
