Bed Head - Self Absorbed Shampoo & Conditioner

TIGI Bed Head Self...
Bed Head Self Absorbed...
My hair is one of the few things I don't mind maintaining & sinking money into. I'm constantly trimming, styling, dyeing, reworking etc. Because, lets face it, frizzy mousey brown hair never did anybody any favors. I just had it retouched for my birthday (which is this weekend..yay!), with a lot more blonde highlights and a chocolate brown low-light with the same tone "peekaboo". I also had a thin out as my hair was getting out of control again. I had my ends trimmed to as they were pretty fried from the constant straightening. I gotta say, I love that just been to the salon feel! Its a shame it never feels the same after you wash it!

Any-who, the point of this blog is that one of things I've never really thought about or paid much attention to, is the fact that for all I do to maintain my hair - I've never considered shampoo or conditioner. Which has probably gone a long way to helping my hair into the state my stylist has endearingly termed "Egg Fried Hell". I'm not sure what the egg part is supposed to mean....

-So I'm on a hunt. A hunt for the perfect-for-me shampoo & conditioner. I don't have a lot of cash to spend constantly trying new products, so this is going to be an as I run out sort of deal. Plus it will give some time for the product to make a difference on my hair (or not!). I figure if something isn't happening in the first bottle..chances are its just not going to happen.

All of this brings me to my point, which is simply, I'm not a fan of Bed Heads Self Absorbed Shampoo & Conditioner. While the orange citrus scent is refreshing & pleasant, the overall product itself I'm highly unimpressed with.  I thought I would try it as I am a fan of the product lines manipulator, but this left a lot to be desired.

For starters the shampoo does not lather well. I had to use a lot of it, and a lot of water to get it to semi-lather, and unless I spend twenty minutes scrubbing my head (which we single moms with kids under 5 know is never a good idea!) my hair just simply does not come clean. Washing my hair should not be a battle of wills between me & my shampoo. Enough said.

Conditioner wise, it applied easily, but I just overall don't feel like its doing a lot for my hair. Its been about a month and If anything I would almost say I'm noticing more breakage. That being said, even if this conditioner were doing something for my hair, I would probably not purchase it again due to the shampoo being so awful. Yeah I'm one of those gotta use the matching set kids.

Overall..thumbs down Bed Head. Thumbs down.

  • I've really been liking the organix line of shampoos and conditioners. Many have argon oil in them which is great for frizz reduction and moisturizing. I haven't had to use a secondary frizz control agent since. Right now I've been using teatree and mint. Usually not a mint fan but really like this stuff. It doesn't have sodium laurate sulfate or however it's spelled, which is bad for your hair and is what makes it really sudsy. Sooooo, it doesn't lather really easily, but it's actually better for your hair that it doesn't. They have lots of different formulas, and Ulta has them as does my local grocery store, so you can check them out. A little pricey, but cheaper than salon brands. • My favorite drugstore brand is L'Oreal Vive Pro. They are cheap and they make me happy. I use the one for Medium to Long hair, and my boyfriend has used the Hydra Gloss moisturizing one when his is longer. He gets crazy frizzy hair, and this stuff worked for him.
