Why I am a Salespersons Ideal Customer

triple performing facial...
Posietint
refined finish facial...
It's probably obvious from most of my posts that I like to buy and try new beauty products. Usually I end up ordering from Sephora online, going to the actual Sephora store, or hitting up the Clinique counter at Macy's when all else fails. When I do have the time though, or if I am having kind of a crappy day, I like to wander around the cosmetics counters at a departments store. Usually it's Macy's because there is one close to my office and I have a wonderfully convenient Macy's American Express card.

What I do is, when I enter the store I decide what my goal purchase is. Last time, I was looking for pink lip color. Then, I wander around and wait for someone to offer to help me. Really offer to help. I basically just wait for someone to try and sell something to me. You would be surprised how hard this is to find sometimes!

Unfortunately, the Clinique counter at my usual haunt is not very friendly. It's gotten to the point where I'll actively avoid it if certain people are working at it (sad!). My most recent trip, it took me three counters before a salesperson made a serious effort to sell me something. It turned out well though, because the guy at the Benefit counter where I ended up was awesome, and he made it really fun. He also sold me several products, so I'm thinking he enjoyed it as well. :)

In the end, I purchased the posietint, the triple performing facial emulsion, and the refined finish facial polish. The posietint is fun, it's very pink, and it lasts about half the day at work. I'm told the benetint lasts longer, but it was more red than I wanted at the time. The facial emulsion smells really great and the bottle is gorgeous, and it is moisturizing without making my skin oily. The polish is my favorite though. I think you're only supposed to use it every few days, but it is really gentle, and so I use it almost every morning in the shower. It smells good too.

  • Oooo neat purchases! You are really selling those items to me haha. I know what you mean about sales people, it seems like you just have to find one that you click with sometimes. Report Spam Posted by naominh at 6:36 AM on 05/20/11

  • I'm the opposite. I tend to fear helpful sales people lol Mostly because I'm a pushover for selling stuff to. But sometimes, you just need someone to direct you to what you're looking for. Like the right foundation or something. I've found more and more appreciation for helpful sales people, though. I'm impressed with the VS ladies at my local store. I was always a bad retail employee. I'd get grumpy in demeanor at times. I was always a good employee because I'd really do my best to make the customer's project perfect, but I wasn't very 'perky'. Now that I am a bit more of a consumer, I see and appreciate the difference that extra smile makes or that bit of chit chat, etc. Report Spam Posted by agauthier79 at 7:12 AM on 05/20/11

  • Haha, I really enjoyed this post because I've experienced the non-helpful sales staff and I am currently working in sales. I have not ever purchased from a MAC counter or store because the sales staff were too busy talking to each other or somehow ignoring my waves over! Being in sales, it is funny how just saying something like hello or asking how someone is can be a shock. People will sometimes jump back in surprise or snarl that they are just looking so I always appreciate it when someone smiles back and says they're just having a browse or answers back. Sales can be so boring! Love the Benefit counters generally! They usually have really friendly but non-pushy staff. Report Spam Posted by elenalee at 1:14 AM on 05/24/11

  • The Benetint is very red but it also lasts the whole day. You can use it more sparingly to get a more subtle hue though. The ladies at my Clinique counter aren't very helpful, either. In fact, the majority of the cosmetics staff at the only store in town that sells high-end make-up are very unhelpful and rude. I'm not even going to go into it, it just gets me annoyed! I always appreciate a friendly salesperson. Report Spam Posted by x0xsharicex0x at 1:34 PM on 05/24/11

  • Very cool! I'm kinda the same way. I like sales people because I'm always interested in hearing what they have to say about products and their recommendations, but I don't like pushy sales people (like car sales people). I think tint is interesting, but I haven't tried any yet. I don't even wear blush, lol. Glad you're enjoying the products, but the real question is would you buy them again? • Thanks for the comments everyone! =)@kitsune01 Heh, well I wouldn't be averse to buying any of them again, but I get distracted easily by new products. I will probably buy the scrub when it is out, unless I decide I like this sample of Laura Mercier face polish better. I will probably also buy more posietint when it is gone, but I'm not as sure about the moisturizer. It's good, but there are others I am interested in trying. • @lynnie482 Thanks for letting me know! I may just hold off for a while then; I don't really need tint. Please keep us updated on more or new products! Report Spam Posted by kitsune01 at 3:22 PM on 06/01/11

  • @kitsune01 Will do! =D Report Spam Posted by lynnie482 at 7:20 AM on 06/03/11
