Embracing My Feminine Side

Navy Green Halter Cotton...
Autumn Zipper Tree Bag...
Brown Halter Cotton Dress...
After writing and thinking my "15 Facts" entry, I've decided that I want to spend more time embracing my feminine side.

This morning I put on a skirt. It felt really good for a change. Plus, it "forced" me to carry one of my adorable purses, since I didn't have pockets to shove everything in. Of course it was chilly so I just threw on a 10yr old XXL St. Pat's sweatshirt.

Ever since someone first added the lovely green dress above to one of their Kaboodle lists, I've been in love with it. I think that was sometime yesterday. I slept on it and I gave in and spent the money on it and the brown one above. I'm not 5'3" and 100lbs like the model, so I know they'll fit me quite differently, but I'm sure I can pull them off very well.

I'm still in the market for other skirts/tops or dresses in similar colors and styles. Could you guys help me out? I don't do bright colors unless it's St. Pats (green), I'm going hunting (orange) or I'm wearing my favorite shirt for working on my Jeep (yellow). I love earth tones and things that flow (skirts/dresses) but prefer tops that are stretchy/snug (not fitted).

I think I'm set on jewelry ;), and I'll be wearing my Top-Siders with anything like the dresses above (I walk too much for heels). I could go for some nail polish suggestions as well. All I own at the moment is green (for St Pats, of course), silver, metallic dark blue, and bright red (for xmas). I'd like suggestions for what would go well with the style/colors above.

So... how about some (affordable, remember I'm a cheap bastard) suggestions? I also wouldn't be opposed to getting out my sewing machine for some simple skirts... I've just never made anything other than totes, purses and dog toys before.

  • Cool that you bought the dresses, the brown's my fave but both are lovely. I won't make any suggestions except to find stuff you like and do polls and I'll give ya my opinions there. Oh checked out your etsy yesterday. Very much fun (only looked at half, you're very productive). The bracelets were my faves and gotta love the Newport Key chain, right? • I really love the brown dress and the purse. Which dress did you get? Both? For the brown you could wear some teal flats (are flats okay?), they probably have some cheap ones at target or ross. And with a... hmm... beige sweater would like good, too! Or even some sort of orang-y gold, or the teal again. Teal with the brown would like really nice with the dress. As for the green, neutrals would look best. Like a tan sweater and sandal (flat ones). Or even bring the orange out a little, with the purse in the middle... Either way, it'll look great together! Nice choice on the dress and the skirt too! :D Report Spam Posted by savoiradore at 9:12 PM on 02/20/11

  • I personally like the green one..and I too think flats would go well with this dress. It's kind of bohemian so flats or any sandal that you like. nice post...Enbrace your inner Goddess. Have fun. Report Spam Posted by newenglandcowgirl at 10:26 PM on 02/20/11

  • I am inclined to pick the green dress.. both are cute tho. For the green dress I would go with a chunky orange sandle . Urban outfitters have some cute wedges that would go with this Report Spam Posted by ajohns at 8:14 AM on 02/21/11

  • I ended up buying both dresses (couldn't pick just one) and I bought the bag a month or so ago. I like the idea of wearing a sweater with them, I figure I'll be sitting in air conditioned classrooms this summer and tossing on a sweatshirt just doesn't seem right :P.She said that she shipped them today. I can't wait. They're coming from Thailand so it will take awhile, but that's okay, maybe the weather will have improved again by the time they show up :) Report Spam Posted by cjsdesigns at 8:45 AM on 02/21/11

  • I love that you are exploring your feminine side! so much fun - I would look at these stores to find good dresses for you anthropologie, modcloth, urban outfitters, lulus, jcrew - should get you started to find the right colors and good fits - they have a TON of variety - let me know what you end up ! I love this fashion adventure quest :) Report Spam Posted by sweetshorty at 9:21 AM on 02/21/11

  • Haha, I love exploring my feminine side. During uni I was constantly in my steel-toe boots and jeans because I'm a sculptor. I remember hosing my jeans off in the driveway one day because they were so disgusting. So on my nights out and days off I often tried to dress girly or put some make-up on so that I wouldn't forget that I have boobs and ovaries! If you like earth tones I love Boots No. 7 nail polish in Iced Mocha. I never really thought to wear brown nail polish until I saw someone else wearing it and thought it looked fantastic. Don't know where sells Boots No. 7 in the states, but I do remember seeing it and thinking "WTF? This is a British brand, but it is cheaper in America?!?" and being overall annoyed with that. And since you are crafty, have you ever worn a sarong? I love them in the summer and you can make your own or buy them for super cheap. I've gotten quite a few nice cotton dresses from clearance at Target over the years. They are cool for chilling and being bohemian but in my mind I call them my house dresses because I wouldn't mind doing house work in them. I think the most I spent on any one of them was $15 US. I can see some of their maxi dresses on you (based on the one pic I've seen of you!). Let us know how those dresses turn out. They look super cute! And if you don't find a good sweater they look like they'd look cute with a pashmina or a shrug as well! Report Spam Posted by elenalee at 11:19 AM on 02/21/11

  • I like your feminine style. It's very hippie bohemian. Nothing wrong with not wearing heels. (They're terribly uncomfortable. I only wear them sometimes because I'm very short - most of the time I wear sneakers or boots.) Ballet flats look great with the type of dresses you seem to like. I'll let you know if I see anything I think you'd like. Good luck! Report Spam Posted by sorapandora at 12:56 PM on 02/21/11

  • I really like that green dress!! Report Spam Posted by her_arsenic_kiss at 7:47 PM on 02/21/11

  • I like the green one. Green is one of my favorite colors. It's always so bright and fun. It's so fun to experiment with feminine dresses! Even if I feel pissed off it just puts me in a better mood when Im wearing a fun dress or skirt. I'm terrible at looking normal in heels. Like @Sorapandora said, balerina flats are pretty and comfy! • Oh my gosh, I totally posted that first green dress on a St. Patrick's Day blog not too long ago! SUPER EXCITED that you bought it! It's so lovely. I'm going to make you a list, and I'll post the link here when I'm done. ...Listening to Andrew Bird and drinking coffee while working on it now, I'll try to have it done before I leave for work! • OK, I've got 7 dresses on there so far. I'm sure you'll like one of them at least. :)http://www.kaboodle.com/ranamarie/dresses-for-cj.html Report Spam Posted by ranamarie at 8:05 AM on 02/22/11

  • @ranamarie - Very cool list. Thanks!! Report Spam Posted by cjsdesigns at 9:38 AM on 02/22/11

  • Can't wait to see these beautiful dresses on you! I think adding some skirts into your waredobe is a great idea to change it up :) If you like more neutral colors I would stick with that and maybe add a pop of color with some fun jewelry or a cute handbag. Let us know what you find! Report Spam Posted by soofaye at 7:01 AM on 02/23/11

  • Great dress. Report Spam Posted by wyetha3 at 11:34 AM on 02/23/11
