Knit, Crochet, and More
May 1, 2009
To keep my own history short, I have been doing it for as long as I can remember. I vaguely recall the day a friend taught me how to crochet. We were making clothes for these tiny bears we'd picked up somewhere. I think I was using a dark red yarn, but don't hold me to that. Several years later, my grandma and I were in a car accident (I was 12), and as soon as she recovered enough (broken neck) to do so, I asked her to teach me to knit. She only knew the knit stitch, and I didn't learn the purl stitch until I was in high school.
I adore both forms, but prefer the flexibility of crochet. Increasing, decreasing and shaping are a piece of cake. Plus, I don't have to lug around two long pointy objects and try to keep two dozen stitches from falling off them.
Over the years I have made doll clothes, hats, scarves, pouches, cozies, can koozies, bottle koozies, basically anything you can think of on a small scale. I just don't have the patience for large projects such as blankets and clothing.
Do you knit or crochet?
When and how did you learn?
What types of projects do you enjoy most?
Favorite type/brand of yarn?
If you don't, what are your opinions on hand knit/crocheted items?

Very Cute!!!
I learned to knit in first grade and learned to crotchet in third. I have made countless things from a dolls hat, to a rug, to a skirt, to a flute case. The education system in which i was taught is called Waldorf and we are taught all ways to do things with your hands. I dont do it much anymore but I love that i know how to do these things. And im glad you can too cause its really fun isnt it?
these are cool!
so cool .. i wish i could make cool things kniting ha <333
btw my favorite's the one with the ducky ha
I knitted once for a few minutes in high school. Badly. I just don't have the attention span for it, or the motor skills. Of course I love nubby sweaters and knitted winter hats and scarves made with funky yarn--I'm really attracted to yarn but don't have the ability or patience to do anything with it. I really love felted home decor objects. I LOVE long long sweaters. Crocheted jewelry not so much.
i adore that duck one!!!!!
I can (sort of) knit and crochet. Learned from my grandma when I was about 8, forgot how, picked it up again a couple years ago...unfortunately I'm the type of person who gets distracted easily and doesn't finish what she starts. It's a lot of fun though! Yarn...I like handspun, hand-dyed stuff generally. Big fan of tweedy yarn. I keep meaning to pick it up again but I'm somehow now missing a bunch of really basic things like row counters and stitch markers. >_<
I don't know how to knit or crochet, but I would love to learn how. I love knit hats and sweaters and socks. My opinion on hand knit and crocheted things usually differs by who's doing it because the items are usually either great or terrible.
I know the basics of both....but I am not good at either. My mother and grandmother AND my grandfather could make anything. The ones in your pictures are really pretty.
I love knitting, especially hats, scarves, and funky bags. I love nice, local handspun yarn, though it's WAY more expensive to buy at knitting shops...
So Cute!!! I wish I knew how to knit or crochet.
