Oscar Dress Debate

Iffy Oscar Dresses
Okay, debate might not be the right word to use ... but I'd like to get everyone's opinions on these Oscar night looks.
1. Natalie Portman: Cute, but what do you think of the colour and length of the dress?

2. Angelina Jolie: Stunning as usual ... but the dress could have had more shape or colour I think ...

3. Jennifer Anniston: Not sure about the dress. VERY not sure about the hair. Yes, it's cute ... but on someone younger. She should be showing off her gorgeous locks, not pinning them down to her head.

4. Tilda Swinton: She's so eerily beautiful it makes me shiver. Piercing green eyes, pale skin, stunning facial structure. I'm not sure if I like the dress/not-dress though. The nude whole ensemble is a bit shapeless for my taste, and the fact that the colour of the top practically matches her skin doesn't help the look. The part of me that adores her, however, is inclined to think that she looks rather like a statue of a greek goddess (although a bit more covered up). I need an unbiased opinion.

5. Melissa George: Now, normally I'm not a fan of dresses that make the wearer look like a mermaid stranded on shore (how do they WALK in those things?) but this one is quite nice. The white works well with her skin tone, and her hair is well done ... but for some reason I'm hesitating a bit on agreeing with the lace up back. Normally I love laces to be everywhere if possible (I swear it's not a fetish), but they seem a bit out of place at the oscars, no?

Anyhow, let me know your thoughts.

  • 1. I think the dress length/color is great for Natalie Portman who still exudes youth and has that classic Hollywood ingenue thing going for her. It's perfect for her - very Audrey.2. I haven't been a big fan of Angelina's dress choices lately. This one is rather blah for my tastes. It's very been there done that.3. Jennifer Aniston always has that minimalist thing going on in her choice of clothing and this is right along with that. However, hair aside I really don't like the nude color she chose. I think when you have a very simple line going on you need a stronger color. Ecru or tan on a blond just washes you out.4. I've always thought Tilda Swinton is STUNNING. (Orlando - HELLO!) That said, her fashion tendencies always freak me out a bit. I know she's notoriously eccentric and androgynous and you gotta love her for it, but her red carpet looks tend to be costumey/over-the-top AND bland at the same time, if that's possible.5. I hate to admit I don't know who Melissa George is. This dress is just a little bit too bridal for the red carpet, I think. But that's just me. Report Spam Posted by jenkc at 9:46 AM on 02/23/09

  • 1. In some photos, the color of Natalie's dress was too much for me. This photo the color is actually quite lovely on her. I agree with Jenkc that she always has that classic look to her and I think it very much fits and flatters her. 2. Angelina's dresses tend to bore me to tears. Two fo the last three dresses were shapeless and did nothing to accentuate her amazing body. This one is definitely better than those, but I would love to see her in some color. I don't care what as long as it's color and if she has to be pregnant before she wears color again, I say go for it Brad. 3. I actually quite liked Jennifer's look. Yes it was youthful, but I thought she looked lovely. I agree that her dress could have been more colorful too, but I'll take this over Angelia's blah black one. 4. I love the Swinton. She is beautiful in an unconventional way. Yes, her outfits tend to be a bit wackadoo, but I think she pulls them off in a way no one else could - ever... 5. I know I've seen her in something before, but I couldn't tell you what. I also thought her dress was a bit too "walking down the aisle" for me. You could stick her on top of a wedding cake and she'd look perfect. Report Spam Posted by gregsgal at 10:00 AM on 02/23/09

  • pretty dresses but i like natalie portman's dress the best becuz of the color and the style Report Spam Posted by hancutie261 at 12:48 PM on 02/23/09

  • These dresses were all really different, but I loved Natalie,Jenn and Melissa George dress. Colors were Cream, fusica pink, and red I'm not a fan of all black and weird outfits. But Angelina's dress is so typical, but Tilda Swinton seems to not care about style. Report Spam Posted by giggleface105 at 3:36 PM on 02/23/09

  • I ABSOLUTELY loved Natalie Portman's dress. I know it got mixed reviews (or at the very least, people were on the fence about it) but I loved the color and the beading in the torso area. Report Spam Posted by jinnyjinn at 4:40 PM on 02/24/09

  • I really loved Natalie Portman's dress, as well. I think that Tilda Swinton is really beautiful, but personally I didn't like her choice of dress. But then again, it's her choice, and if someone's wearing something to the Oscars, they obviously like it. So I hate to say that I don't. I liked Melissa George's dress, minus the laces, and perhaps in an ivory or something - I agree that it does look a bit too much like a wedding dress.
