Vitamin-Fortified...
OPI Nail Polish Original...
Nail Strengthener
attn: your help and/or suggestions are needed! i am having the worst time with my nails lately. they are peeling really badly at the top, breaking easily, im getting a lot of hang-nails, and overall they are dry! and with the weather changin, ohh..its only gonna be getting worse.

the first product at the top is a sally hansen nail fortifier (protein) that i had bought a while ago, it seemed to work pretty good but they say to use a couple coats every couple days and that just made the polish all bubbly after a while.

so recently i bought the third product at the top, sally hansens nail strengthener. and i am so unhappy with the product, i just want to return it and get my $4.00 back. seriously. it hasnt helped with anything. in fact, the polish starts chipping off within a day.

so...i was thinking i should have bought the opi nail envy in the first place. i wanted to save myself some money, but in the end, it hasnt really mattered because im not getting the results i want with the two products i did buy.

i did add a few products to my beauty list: three by opi, nail defense by orly, and millonails strengthener by essie.

what would you suggest? have you used a really good nail treatment on your nails?

im in dire need to fix this nail situation! i love keeping up with my nails. and i love when they look nice, it makes me feel more feminine. =]

<33! thanks in advance

  • I was never able to grow my nails before I started using Nail Envy. It's the best I've ever tried, and I've tried a lot! My nails were damaged from acryllics, they were dry, brittle, short and quite unhealthy looking really. Now they are amazing, very strong, healthy and long beyond belief. If I cut them back because one breaks, they grow quickly with the use of Nail Envy. It's magic in a bottle. Also, if you are getting hangnails, your nails are probably dry. Nail oil, cuticle cream, anything to hydrate them. I really reccomend Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Cuticle and Nail Oil. Good luck! Report Spam Posted by x0xsharicex0x at 4:06 PM on 10/02/09

  • I would recommend taking a break from the polish for a little while until your nails get healthier. definitely take @x0xsharicex0x advice. nail oil is great. Report Spam Posted by anna_panda at 4:47 PM on 10/02/09

  • I'm a nail tech, and when I have clients with nails like your describing, I always use Nail Envy- I've seen major, major improvements with my own eyes. Other things help though too. If you soak your nails in soapy, warm water for about 5 minutes, then gently push your cutucle back. Don't file your nails back and forth like a see-saw-. Begin at each side and file towards the middle with your strokes going only one way. Apply cuticle oil, and allow it to absorb for about 5 minutes and then wash your hands, being very careful to clean each nail, so the oil is removed from the nail or the polish won't stick. Then apply nail envy, two coats of color and a top coat (OPI Rapid Dry is what works best for me.) You can still apply a coat of Nail Envy everyday without bubbles and chunks. • Are you taking multi-vitamins and calcium, I would just make sure you're nails are in good health like the rest of you. Report Spam Posted by lavabunny at 5:04 AM on 10/03/09

  • Hmm I dont know sweetie Report Spam Posted by toshiba1 at 4:41 PM on 10/03/09

  • For dry cuticles I use Burt's Bees lemon butter cuticle cream, I don't know if this would help your nails any but it keeps your hands soft and smells delicious :) Report Spam Posted by soofaye at 8:47 PM on 10/03/09

  • @nblasius, thank you so much for your suggestion, i will definitely do that! i guess that nail envy is worth the price. a couple people have said that it works great, and coming from a nail tech it must be true. thanks again. @lavabunny, no i dont talk a multivitamin. :[ gahh..maybe i should! and yep..dont get enough calcium for sure... @soofaye, god, i love burts bees! i want the lemon poppyseed cleanser! and that cuticle cream sounds sooo nice. • I use Barielle nail strengthener cream. It's sold at CVS and is in a little tube somewhere in the beauty asile... you have to search for it for a bit, but it's wonderful. I'm really hard on my nails, and they used to always crack and peel, but ever since I started using this cream, they haven't :) Report Spam Posted by trippingxeyes at 6:52 AM on 10/04/09

  • @xohxohxsnapx, thank you, i will definitely be trying that cream! and thats exactly whats happening. they are cracking and peeling along with my skin around them. :[ thats not cute! Report Spam Posted by cupcakexo at 11:35 AM on 10/04/09

  • Dry nails are the worst. I've mosturized my cuticles with vaseline before. You could also mosturize your hands and wear gloves to bed, that always helps smooth cuticles. Water dries out cuticles, so maybe if you wash the dishes, wear gloves? Report Spam Posted by jessicachanel at 6:30 PM on 10/05/09

  • Take multivitamins. I've never seen my nails grow (and not break) as much as they have when I take my daily multivitamins. Report Spam Posted by mamor at 10:18 AM on 10/09/09

  • It's like reading a narrative on my own nails! :) Honestly, the best thing I have found so far has been Sally Hansen Complete Care Extra Moisturizing 4-in-1 Treatment. I use it as a base coat if I'm using polish or just by itself to keep my nails from peeling, cracking or chipping. I also find that Rosebud Salve (the original - you can get it at Sephora) works really well for cuticles and stopping hang nails. I have tried the Burt's Bees cuticle cream as well as Vitamin E oil and neither of those worked for me. Good luck! Report Spam Posted by mandycandy7118 at 7:00 PM on 10/09/09

  • IMO sally hansen products are a bit over rated. I never really got the results I was looking for. I've never used opi but I've heard great things, I definitely think you should give it a try :) Report Spam Posted by kaylax3 at 9:38 AM on 12/20/09

  • I've gotten some advice for myself just by reading others answers!!! Thanks to all! xoxo Report Spam Posted by ksplash18 at 7:21 PM on 05/06/10
