hi. :]

i would just like to share my dilemma with you all.

lately ive been stressing myself out because even with working, im really low on money. and by the low on money i mean, i have none. this means, what id really like and need for myself, has to be put on hold....for i dont know how long.

unfortunately all at once, i feel like i need a total makeover! at this time, all im thinking is that i need a haircut & style! [my hair is lifeless], and new color [hmmphh..i need a change!] new makeup is a must. and new fall clothes..[theres soooo many cute pieces out there!]...

you know that feeling when you start something new and everything feels so fresh.. i want to feel that right about now..

so i ask: how do you ladies deal?

  • Are we secretly the same person or something? I mean, I'm in the same boat, no money and in desperate need of a new "me" Try swapping clothes and stuff with your buddies, it helps for a little while ^^ Report Spam Posted by padsthebrave at 8:43 PM on 09/07/09

  • thanks for letting me know im not alone! i guess its also a good thing i have an older sister whose around my size, i can always borrow some of her stuff. ;] Report Spam Posted by cupcakexo at 8:47 PM on 09/07/09

  • I guess an older sister would come in handy during a situation like this. Unfortunately I don't have any sisters, only 2 brothers. I hope things get better for you soon! Report Spam Posted by chanbrina8 at 5:57 AM on 09/08/09

  • Do you know anyone who knows how to cut hair? I'm pretty lucky in that my mom was a stylist for a number of years, but my sister also has a friend who cuts hair too. Sometimes they're happy to cut for free (or a very tiny charge). Another good place to check out are beauty schools. They often have really cheap prices because the students are doing the work while being supervised by an instructor. Here in SLC there are places like Pips Clothing Exchange or Plato's Closet where you can bring in your old clothes and they'll give you cash or credit to use in their stores. Typically places like this give you more if you plan on spending the money in their store, but you can still make a good amount even if you decide to take the cash and run. • Yeah, definitely look into a beauty school, Aveda has a school near me in MN and you can get your hair cut for $20 :) For make up try e.l.f. (http://www.eyeslipsface.com/). I've never tired this but my girlfriend was happy with the gloss and mineral makeup. Almost everything is just $1! Can't beat that. Report Spam Posted by soofaye at 12:57 PM on 09/08/09

  • I would definitely do what @soofaye is suggesting and call a nice salon and see if they have a student night, where a student cuts your hair under supervision for around $20 and a tip, I do this all the time and although it takes a bit longer than a regular haircute it comes out really well, the teachers ensure you get an expensive looking haircut. For clothing I think you have to shop your closet, put away the stuff you are sick of and push forward the stuff you haven't worn in a while and play with it. For makeup, I would try shopping what I already had, too. Try layering lipstick colors and see what you get, or try using lipsticks as blush and see if you like the color. Sometimes I'm surprised at the good things I already have. Report Spam Posted by lavabunny at 2:09 PM on 09/08/09

  • @gregsgal, thank you, i do have a friend that cuts hair but am almost embarrased to ask her to do it cheaper. but thank you for bringing up the idea of a beauty school. theres a mario triccoci university near me. ive gone before but have forgotten about it. i loved how they did my hair! @soofaye, thanks, i checked out the elf site and they do have really cute stuff for cheapppp! ill have to order some things and try it out. and my sister mentioned theres an aveda school somewhere near her in chicago, she loves it. @lavabunny, thank you for the suggestions. i always like having your input. i like your idea of mixing and layering makeup i already have. instead of throwing a bunch away i should go through it and see what i still like. thanks for your suggestions! :] Report Spam Posted by cupcakexo at 2:55 PM on 09/08/09

  • omg, yes. i hate that! i usually have know money, but i always feel like i need a change in me. i wish money acutally did grow on trees. go with @soofaye 's idea! Report Spam Posted by aannnnaaxoxo32 at 4:07 PM on 09/08/09

  • Beauty schools are always good for new hair styles :)Also, consignment/thrift stores are great, because you can sell your old clothing and get money, or credits at the store. I always find great items at consignment stores that freshen up my look. And CVS also has really great make-up for not that much. I believe Allure did an article in August or July where a top make-up artist, hair stylist, and dermatoligest went to CVS with a budget of $100 dollars and had to purchase a certain amount of items/all items had to be under $10 or something... a lot of great products were found :) And CVS also will allow you to return cosmetics if you don't like the color once you get home. hope I was able to help! • For a free or cheaper hair cut, some salons have demo nights where you can get top service for low costs. Maybe check to see if any of those are in your area. My sister is a hair stylist/cosmetologist so I am taken care of in that area. As far as products, I am a sales associate at my fave store and I also get discounts and other free items because of it. The mall I work in sometimes gives us free products too. Maybe if you have time, try to apply at a beauty store? Even working 3 hours a week would entitle you to products/discounts. As far as clothes, loads of thrift stores and vintage places have great low cost items. Hope I helped. Report Spam Posted by jessicachanel at 8:01 PM on 09/08/09

  • If your friends are the same size as you you could get together after going through your closest and have a clothing swap. It'd be free and it would give you a chance to get some cute gear while your friends get some too. Everyone wins!! Report Spam Posted by gregsgal at 8:06 PM on 09/08/09

  • ummm, maybe you could get some key pieces to move your outfits look totally different Report Spam Posted by gabyee at 6:25 PM on 09/09/09

  • I second the beauty school idea. I think a cool party with girlfriends, getting together, swapping clothes and doing each other's make-up would be fun, plus you might get some new ideas, make-up wise. Report Spam Posted by x0xsharicex0x at 12:55 PM on 09/10/09

  • I like to shop my own closet. I take almost everything out and generally I'll see something that I've forgotten about. Then I try to think outside of the box and mix and match everything - sometimes it works and I find a great "new" outfit. Sometimes it just looks wacky, but it's always fun! I do this with my make-up too. I'm always experimenting. It works so well, that I generally have a whole new look every 6 months or so! :) Report Spam Posted by weslee at 2:55 PM on 09/24/09
