Even superstitions can't get in the way of my appreciation of the sample Marimekko umbrella in the '60s "Papajo" print by Annika Rimala ($49), which arrived at my desk today and reminded me how a little fashionable gesture can brighten even the gloomiest days!

It's supercute and a dramatic improvement from my broken-winged black cheapie stuck in my trunk. Yay!

I LOVE Marimekko. I had the good fortune to spend six weeks living with a Finnish family in Tampere as a LIONS International exchange student (there was no school involved...just that it was for high school and college students) when I was sixteen. It is a beautiful country and the art, architecture, and design in general is awesome. My two favorite finds in that regard were Marimekko and Arabia (Finnish dinnerware). Your umbrella is gorgeous.
