Dial D for Drama: Chapter One
Chapter One
Fiona Barker bit her glossy bottom lip as she pressed send. This text could decide the future of her life as the ruler of North Woods Middle school.
Fiona: Hey Rikku r u busy tonight?
Every one who was someone knew Rikku Santo was the son of Antonio Santo the owner of a chain of five-star restaurant and one of the hottest, richest, most popular boys in all of North Woods Middle School. And he just happened to be her next-door neighbor.
When Fiona was going to grade six her mom had wanted her to go to a private school but she turned it down because of her blossoming crush on him. Now it was the end of grade seven and soon she’d be going to grade eight and she was ready for full bloomed love.
Rikku: I’m hanging with the Crazy Crew, but that doesn’t mean we can’t hang tomorrow right?
“Oh, he totally blew you off!” Victoria Sanderson said. Victoria’s buttery blonde hair was in braids that Militia Regal had just finished braiding.
Militia turned so her back faced Victoria so she could braid her curly red locks. That and so Militia could avoid Fiona’s flaming green eyes.
“Shut up you, twit!” Fiona hissed. She was blushing as red as her hair. She hated the fact that Rikku blew her off, but loved the fact that he cared about his friends and thought about hanging out with her the next night.
But regardless she still hated the Crazy Crew.
Fiona hated the Crazy Crew in every single way. Just the thought of Rikku’s tight cluster of friends made her totally angry. She wanted to be a member of the ‘crew’, but she wasn’t Crazy Crew material.
She hated the people in the Crew almost as much as the name of the stupid group.
Toshiro Milton was a sporty-boy in the school year, California-beach-boy in the summer. He was really cute but was Theresa Collens main love intrest. It was rumored the he had abs but Fiona didn’t trust that because she had heard that from Theresa herself.
Theresa Collens was the drama queen and had kissed Rikku before. She was pretty smart and a total chatter box and gossip radar. Theresa and Fiona would be good friends but Fiona hated her.
Melanie Ivory was a total Avril Lavigne wannabe. She dressed in vintage rock t-shirts and had light purple hair that had a hot pink streak in her hair. Her hair was actually light brown but she had a gross habit of dying her hair constantly or whenever her brown roots began to show. She has a really good singing voice but Fiona would never admit that.
Blake MOG. (Blake Michael Oscar Gage) was a really cute boy. Baby cute, not boy friend cute. He had buttery blonde hair but not as light as Toshiro’s. He also has clear blue eyes. He loved skate boarding and acts immature all the time yet he’s the oldest member in the Crazy Crew.
And lastly Rikku Santo, the hands-down hottest boy in the crew. He had dark brown hair and olive green eyes.
But they are not the stars of this story, Fiona thought as she placed her cell phone on her night stand unable to respond to Rikku’s latest text and returned to her sleepover. I am.
Militia was absent mindedly paging through an issue of In the Know magazine while Victoria finished Militia’s last braid.
“So how’d it go with Rikku?” Militia asked tossing one of her braids over her silky green camisole.
“It didn’t go!” Fiona cried. “All Rikku’s money is going to his head blocking important things such as me.”
Victoria smoothed out her black Victoria’s Secret slip before reaching for the bowl of un-buttered popcorn. She let out a giggle.
“ Anyways, where the heck is that Connie girl?” Victoria asked. “She said she was coming but she’s a no-show.”
Connie Kenly was a new girl that moved down on Manor Street the street of mansions and just happened to want-in into Fiona’s clique of friends. Just to see if she was the right material Fiona had invited her to the slumber party.
Fiona called her group the A-List Girlz because Victori-A, Militi-A, and Fion-A all ended in A’s and all three of the girls were A-List worthy.
“If she doesn’t come in the next few minutes she’s going to miss the news of the summer.” Fiona said. Fiona reached back to her night stand and checked her pink crystal covered phone to see if Rikku had sent a text and he hadn’t.
Just then the door bell ran and Victoria, Militia and Fiona raced to the door. Fiona ran as fast as possible as a girl who had been walking in high-heels since age 9 could. Not because she was excited that Connie could have been at the door, but more because Rikku could have been standing there at the door in all his hot glory.
“Hey guys!” Connie said. She waved and showed off her 2 o’clock a.m. wannabe manicure job. Her dry blonde hair was messily put into a side ponytail and her amber eyes were poorly outlined with all the wrong make up colors. “Sorry I’m late, but I couldn’t decide on my pajamas.”
Fiona shook her head as she reluctantly added makeovers to her schedule of the A-List Girlz slumber party.
Victoria snickered at Connie’s monkey print pajamas and exchanged glances with Militia.
“That’s cool.” Militia said warmly. Militia was one of the kindest girls in the group but she knew that she should stay on Fiona’s side. “It was really hard to choose out my silk camisole and matching short shorts.”
Fiona put her hand to her glossed lips as she forced back a giggle as she led Connie to her living room. Militia’s outfit was totally intentional. It’s color complemented her red hair, and made her long legs look longer and elegant. It was completely intentional.
Just then Camp Rock’s song Too Cool rang through the room.
“That’s my phone!” Fiona exclaimed. She leaped over popcorn bowls and magazines and sleeping bags just to reach for her phone.
Rikku: I’m going to take a midnight swim while the Crew sleeps later tonight. Are you in?
Deep in the pit of Fiona’s stomach she felt a flutter. Her whole heart felt like it was about to explode and Fiona was so angry that it was just 10:34 pm.
Fiona felt slow breathing on her neck and she felt like she wanted to slap Victoria. She knew it was Victoria because she was always up in her grill.
“Victoria.” Fiona hissed while she made a face of disgust. “Did you just read my text?” Fiona turned on her heels and gave Victoria a dirty look.
Victoria bit her lip and nodded as she backed away from Fiona. Connie was bouncing up and down on her toes waiting for the news.
Fiona tried to mask her anger as she dragged Victoria out of the room. In the dark of Fiona’s hallway Fiona’s voice was low and sharp. “Don’t tell anybody in this house about what Rikku said. This could actually take our relationship from ‘just friends’ to ‘crush’” Fiona said.
“Well if you kiss him or anything else good happens you have got to tell us.” Victoria said.
“Promise?” Fiona said. “You can’t tell anybody about the swim because the girls will get so pissed off that I’m going to leave them. But when it’s the next day I’ll tell you all about it along with everybody else.”
Victoria smiled and held her hand out for Fiona to shake. “Promise.” Victoria said as she shook Fiona’s hand.
The two girls returned to the living room and Militia was braiding Connie’s blonde hair as Connie tried to wipe of some smudged mascara near the corner of her eye.
Fiona grabbed her free flowing hair and pulled it back from her face. She ran up stairs grabbed her make up bag and grabbed her terry cloth bath robe to cover her baby pink camisole mini dress and hurried downstairs.
Victoria grabbed Fiona’s make-up bag. “No way, you have the latest To Be Rosy blush in all the shades! Why didn’t you tell me?”
Fiona ran up stairs again and hoped that he wasn’t sweating because of all the running up the stairs over and over again. She grabbed a down filled pillow and a blue sleeping bag and ran back down stairs.
“Hey, Connie,” Fiona called. “This,” She said waving the sleeping bag around like a dog-owner with a slab of steak. “Is your sleeping bag.”
Fiona’s was a pink one with gold crowns, Militia’s one was a green one with blue polka dots, Victoria’s one was black with pink hearts and Connie’s was plain blue.
Connie seemed a lot like her sleeping, plain and dull while the other girls’ ones were pretty and ones you would actually want to sleep on.
Fiona positioned them so that every body could face each other. She sat in front of Connie and grabbed her make-up bag from Victoria who was applying To Be Rosy blush.
“How bout we do make overs?!” Fiona exclaimed.
“Yay!” The girls cheered.
Fiona smiled as she handed Connie a wash cloth and To Be Clean face cleanser to wash off all of her make-up. This was a perfect plan. She’d have Militia do her make-up so when it was time for her midnight rendezvous with Rikku she’d be ready.
When Connie came back the make over session began with Fiona trying to transform Connie from ‘loser’ to ‘lookin’ good.’ Connie doing Victoria’s make over (Poor Victoria!). Victoria doing Militia’s and lastly Militia doing Fiona’s.
After the make over session the girls played truth or dare, ordered pizza, had a dance session and lastly told ghost stories to each other.
As soon as Fiona had time between them munching pizza she grabbed her phone ran into the hallway and texted Rikku.
Fiona: I’ll meet you there I’ll be out a bit early. It’ll be so sexy if I’m already in the pool.
And before she could even put the phone down Rikku answered and she read the text in her quivering hands.
Rikku: See you soon, babe![]()
