Finding the Perfect Mascara.

Mascara is a basic beauty essential for any girl but lately I have been mascara free for months. I haven't found the perfect mascara & I have spent the small amount of money I have on ones that just aren't doing the label justice. I just want a basic mascara. I'm not much into eye makeup, just the basics.
There seems to be millions of brands and types to choose from. So Kaboodlers, I was wondering if you could lend me a hand. Let me know what mascara you use & why you love it. I'm determined to find the perfect mascara for myself, I just need some advice.

I'm looking for
  • inexpensive
  • long lashes
  • non waterproof

Let me know what you have or find, I would love to hear. Thanks!

  • I love Maybelle's great lash washable mascara it's the one with the pink and green tube. All of my female relatives wear it, I don't know what your lashes are like, but it works for my type. also see: http://www.youtube.com/user/MichellePhan#p/u/11/jf4W-tG80zI Report Spam Posted by doubleletterlady at 7:30 PM on 07/05/11

  • I've only used a few different mascaras over the years - For the most part, I can't tell a difference between them. But my go-to mascara is by Almay, and I love it because it's very inexpensive, available everywhere, and not tested on animals. Report Spam Posted by sorapandora at 7:34 PM on 07/05/11

  • I still use covergirl volume exact. I live the way my lashes look. Report Spam Posted by luv2kreate at 7:53 PM on 07/05/11

  • I've heard that Great Lash is the way to go. Good luck on your beauty search. Report Spam Posted by jessicachanel at 7:56 PM on 07/05/11

  • I've used Maybelline's Colossal Volum' Mascara for years because I have really thin lashes and I love it. Report Spam Posted by crayola09 at 8:18 PM on 07/05/11

  • I've found using a combination of lengthing mascara and volume mascara works for me. I use Covergirl Lashblast and I have been using Covergirl Lashblast Luxe for volume. The Luxe is not my favorite, it can leave clumps, but it works for now :) Report Spam Posted by soofaye at 8:34 PM on 07/05/11

  • My drugstore fav is covergirl lashblast fusion. It's supposed to give you length and volume, but for me its all about the wand. It makes it super easy to seperate all your lashes. AND it doesn't clump. Report Spam Posted by vanessa333 at 8:54 PM on 07/05/11

  • Sorry!! Don't wear make-up anymore!!!!! Report Spam Posted by susan_brown at 12:20 PM on 07/06/11

  • I second the comment from @crayola09! I only use Colossal Volum' Express. I'm sure there's a better mascara out there if you want to pay a million dollars, but this is cheap and works great. I get asked at least once a week if my eyelashes are real... I give the mascara the credit :) http://www.maybelline.com/products/60/eyes/mascara/volum-express-the-colossal-washable-mascara/glam-black/0?shadeId=335 Report Spam Posted by wendy_b at 12:41 PM on 07/06/11

  • I've tried a few and I find any from Maybelline work the best for me. Whichever style you're going for (volume, length, etc.) they have a mascara for you. :] Report Spam Posted by mollysaurus at 7:38 PM on 07/06/11

  • revlon voluminous is best for volume and length - that said, id order the mascara favorites box from sephora.com (you get a ton of different mascaras to try and most of them are fabulous!) - good value Report Spam Posted by sweetshorty at 12:33 PM on 07/07/11

  • If your looking for just a basic mascara, use Maybelline's Great Lashes, it's in a pink and green tube. It's great, because it doesn't clump up. I don't wear make-up very often, but I absolutely swear by it!:-) Report Spam Posted by miss_sunshine88 at 11:52 PM on 07/07/11

  • Rimmell has these volumizing mascaras that I like. They actually work and do make lashes look longer. The real trick is, though, use as curler first, it can be an inexpensive one. Report Spam Posted by lavabunny at 12:47 AM on 07/08/11

  • It's not the most inexpensive, but I like my Bare Minerals mascara. Report Spam Posted by alamode87 at 9:21 AM on 07/09/11

  • FALSIES mascara Report Spam Posted by earthangel67 at 4:53 PM on 07/09/11

  • I double up. My favorite and the one I ALWAYS go back to is L'Oreal Voluminous. I put that on first and follow it up with Rimmel's MaXXX mascara (it's got a hot pink top). The reason I double up is that the volumious gives me great volume and the rimmel gives me length. You can usually get both for $6 or less. Report Spam Posted by gregsgal at 8:57 PM on 07/10/11

  • I use the Maybelline falsies. i love ittt Report Spam Posted by nyxdanceislife at 1:21 PM on 07/11/11

  • Great lash is my fave, they're cheap, easy to get off with eye makeup remover (non waterproof) & give nice full not fake-looking lashes. been using it for years. be sure and let us know what you choose! Report Spam Posted by pinkone at 3:39 PM on 07/11/11

  • I use a variety of different mascaras. I've got a few go-to ones that I pick up if nothing is on sale, but every few months I tend to try a new one. I love L'Oreal Telescopic. I got the clean definition and the regular one with a BOGOF deal. The clean definition is great for really long lashes without looking like you are wearing mascara. I also like it because it lasted for a long time without getting clumpy. I also regularly wear Clinique mascaras because my mom is religious about buying her Clinique products when they have the free gift going on. She doesn't wear mascara so I always get them. Their curling formula is great but really thick and dramatic, so for a more natural look I'd go with naturally glossy or high impact (which while giving you great volume is not exactly high impact). Looking at your requirements I'd go for the L'Oreal Telescopic Clean Definition. About $10-12 per tube at regular price, but I always get it on sale. Good luck with your search! • I'm a little late but... I really like Maybelline's Colossal the one in the yellow bottle because of the price and results. But I am in LOVE with Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash lasts me a long time worth every penny! Find it at Sephora Report Spam Posted by xjoliexgreenx at 1:32 PM on 09/01/11

  • I've got very sensitive eyes and mascara usually got into my eyes and hurt very bad, even when I changed to more expensive chanel and dior mascaras, the situation didn't improve. A couple years ago, my summer roommate introduced me to mac's fake lashes. And they work much better for me as a substitute for mascaras, except that I had to get used to put it on in a short amount of time. Report Spam Posted by jujustyle at 7:38 PM on 09/03/11

  • I use a combo of Revlon's Grow Lucious and Maybelline's Falsies. If going with just one though, I prefer Falsies. It definitely helps to coat each and every lash and the 'spoon' brush lets you get right up to the lash line for a nice coat!! Good luck on the quest! • I like to try a new one each time. Never bought the same one twice! Maybe because I haven't found my perfect mascara... Report Spam Posted by elastica at 3:05 PM on 09/17/11

  • I know you said inexpensive but if you get a good mascara it'll last you a longer time, not irritate your eyes, and have other benefits. I used to buy drugstore brands too but since I've tried department store brands I just can't go back!!Anyway! My favorite mascara is Dior show extase. I'm in Canada and it's around $30. It sounds a bit extreme I know but just wait!It has vitamins and a growth serum (the only one I've found that doesn't alter your eye colour) and the serum really works. I use mine every day for 2 weeks then can leave it off for a while cause my eyelashes get so dang long! And its brush inspired by Dior fashions gets every single little lash for amazing length and definition. If you try it out, let me know! I'd love to know how it works for you.PS- I used to work in a department store setting and this mascara was the top selling out of all the brands! Second best was Lancome Oscillation which vibrates and gives a false lash look- seriously. I use it for date nights and girls night out! I have found my perfect mascara combo- and the above are it! Good luck! Report Spam Posted by miss_mo at 5:51 PM on 09/30/11

  • Maybelline BIG Lash. It come in a pink and green tube. I have thin, light colored, long lashes that come to life with this mascara. It doesn't clump or flake. I don't need to put on a lot of coats to see results. I use the dark brown color to have a more natural look. It cost around $5.00. Good luck!
