Should I get an iPhone 3G?

May 25, 2009 in Gadgets and Gizmos
iPhone 3G Sales &...
Every single person I know tells me I should. Including both my friends who work with cellphone and will probably be working on my contract. I have a list of requirements that I check before getting a cellphone:

- Internet (I need internet on my cellphone, since I Twitter and I need notifications when I get an e-mail)

- Organizer/Calendar (I like to keep track of my work schedule and school schedule, since my current cellphone is litteraly crap at doing that I want a step up)

- MP3 Player (When I get bored at work, I listen to music. Plain and simple)

- Easy to use keyboard (I have a big thumb, I think. So cellphones with tiny keys are out. That's why I declined to get the Blackberry Curve)

- LOUD and clear Loudspeaker (When I want to put it on loudspeaker, since I hate those bluetooth things, I want it to be loud. I want to be able to hear the person I'm talking to loud and clear)

These are bonus things that I want in a phone:

- GPS (I get lost a lot. Seriously. I wanted to get to Roseville CA, and I ended up in Davis CA just by following my instincts instead of asking for directions)

- Videos (I want to be able to watch the latest episode of House that I missed. Though I've seen it all, I just think getting clear videos on a phone is cool)

- EVERYTHING (I want a lot of features on a phone, from taking pictures to being able to do my laundry... Though that's asking too much)

So, here are the questions:

1. Do you have an iPhone 3G?
2. Do you like it?
3. Is the internet fast?
4. What do you like about it?
5. What do you NOT like about it?
6. Would you recommend it to a friend?
7. What's your favorite ice cream flavor?

So... awaiting your feedback. Thank you.

Okay, so here are my answers...

1. Yes, I have an iPhone 3G
2. Yes, I like it!
3. I think mine is pretty fast. It usually only takes a couple seconds to load a page, even one like Kaboodle where there's loads of stuff on it.
4. I like that you can dowload a bazillion different apps (a lot of them are free). Some of my favorites are: Lose It, Bounce On, Google, Clost (it's a closet organizer!), and Epicurious. I have a bunch more, but those are the ones I use most often. Google Maps is automatically on the phone (I think...I don't recall downloading it). You can type in the address you want to get to and you can route it from your current location, giving you step by step instructions on how to get from A to B. Or, if you don't know the address, you can search for the place you're trying to go (ex: Starbucks) and it will locate all the starbucks in the area.
5. I don't like that any phone call that comes in or text that I opt to reply to at that moment automatically closes me out of whatever else I'm doing. Kind of annoying, but I've heard they're fixing this issue. I'm also not a huge fan of having to download music from iTunes to make customized ring tones. I already own all the songs I want to use (and most of them are already made into ring tones that I used on my last phone), but I can't use them. Grr...
6. Overall, yes, I would recommend it to friends
7. I'm always a fan of cookies and cream, but I love Hagaan Daas' Bailey's Irish Cream and Dulce de Lece (they go really well together!) and Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Macadamia. Yum!

1. No, I'm cheap.
2. See #1 above.
3. See #1 above.
4. See #1 above.
5. See #1 above.
6. See #1 above.
7. Ben and Jerry's New York Super Fudge Chunk is one of my faves.
8. I'd like a phone that would do my laundry, too.

1. Nope, I don't usually spend money on electronics, but on clothes and shoes. =)
7. Oreo chocolate cookie fudge( I think that is what its called) at Baskin Robins
or a simple raspberry sorbet from Haagen Dazs.

I'm no help. I'm getting ready to switch from Sprint to AT&T and can't decide what I want - but I won't be accessing the internet (can't afford it). I have been looking at the Samsung Eternity, as it has lots of similar features to the iPhone but is much cheaper.

1. No, I don't. But my cousin has one.
2. She has one but she hates it... she's planning to sell it.
3. She claims the internet is super slow, and that is why she hates it.
...........
7. Ben and Jerry's New York Super Fudge Chunk

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention. There isn't a multimedia texting capability with the iphone. Instead you have to send it as an e-mail. This site explains how you do that. It isn't tricky. Also, unless someone else knows how to, I haven't figured out a way to record videos. I don't need to often, so I'm not really missing that function, but it came in handy every now and again.

I wonder if the internet speed depends on your location. I have never had a problem with it being slow, but I'm in an urban area and there are lots of cell towers around.

I googled the ring tone problem I was having and found this. I'll try it out tonight and let you know if it worked. : )

1. No, sad :(
2. N/A
3. N/A
4. N/A
5. N/A
6. N/A
7. Phish Food from Ben and Jerry's!

I love my iPhone! I say go for it completely, I have had MANY phones over the years and this tops them all. Speed DEFINITELY depends on location, I travel around alot and it varies simply like any cell service does in relation to satellites and towers. Mine has never given me a problem that cannot be fixed by turning it off than on again. Good luck!

my father has an iphone and he loves it! but everyone at my school has one so i didn't want one. the internet isn't that bad either. he never really seems to have a problem with it. it does a lot of cool things.
hmm...i like lots of flavors! chocolate chip cookie dough and strawberry cheesecake is my favorite! :D

Answer for your questions:
1.Well i don't have an iphone 3G
Im not sure about no.2-6
7My favorite ice cream flavor(this is a question i like because it has to do with food, lol) is chocolate, rocky road, and banana split.

1. Yes

2. Can't live without it

3. As long as you're in an area with great reception, the 3G rocks at lightspeed

4. I can facebook, twitter, read perez hilton, listen to music, watch the kittens inspired by kittens youtube anytime I want, get the NYT news, play pacman, get sports scores (so I can sound like I know what I'm talking about), check email, take really good quality photos and upload them instantly online with cute polaroid borders....

hang on I need to take a breath...

and you can download ANY APP YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE. seriously, there's an app for everything.

5. I don't like any area without good reception. I wish it could copy and paste text. I wish you could group chat like blackberrys can.

6. 100%

7. Oatmeal cookie dough

1. Yes, I have the first version (silver back) and it has yet to fail me. I am planning on upgrading soon...holding out hope that they update the 3G this summer with their next big software release.
2. LOVE it. A big perk is that whenever the software needs to be upgraded or there's a bug fix, you can easily do it through iTunes. It's like a mini computer in your hands.
3. Since I have the older version, the internet is a bit slower than the 3G, but it still works for me.
4. I love the apps (Facebook and a few games I downloaded for free), music, and email are my favorite things. Oh, and I also love the way it stores text conversations.
5. The speaker could be improved. Also, I don't like that you can't send picture messages - BUT, this will be fixed after their new software release in the summer.
6. Of course!
7. Dulce de leche

@mamor: You can send picture messages, you just have to do it through e-mail. I put a link explaining it above. : )

@gregsgal: Tricky, tricky! Thanks ;-). At least we know that the feature will be updated in a couple months so no need for the work-around then.

1. I don't have one : (

7. COOKIE DOUGH!!!!!!!!!!! =D

1. Do you have an iPhone 3G? I have the first generation iPhone and I love it.
2. Do you like it? See above.
3. Is the internet fast? Not when I'm using the phone, but when I'm wi fi, it's not bad. But I still use it.
4. What do you like about it? Just about everything. The applications. The design. My music. TV shows. Movies. Youtube. Googlemaps (which is great for traveling). Etc. Etc.
5. What do you NOT like about it? I think the internet speed and battery life.
6. Would you recommend it to a friend? Yes!! And I do, regularly.
7. What's your favorite ice cream flavor? Just about any.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. :) It really helps and you guys are hilarious.
My favorite ice cream flavor is Ben and Jerry's Americone Dream, BTW. Haha!

I wouldn't spend that much money on a cellphone .....only because I've been known to accidentally drop them In cups of Kool-Aid...LOL.... It's true.... ask my daughters thats what happened to their cellphones.....(^_^)

^^That is why I pay the extra amount for the insurance. I've dropped many phones, so the insurance it worth it for me. Especially on my iphone! If something happens to it, I don't want to have to buy another one!

1. Yes, I have
2. of course I like it =)
3. maybe.. I'm not used it. I use laptop for internet. it's impossible to open kaboodle, the pic will looks small. =)

5. the touch screen. It's a little bit hard for makes a message when I drive.
6. definetely
7. I love cookies and cream. so yummy..

Hey, I thought I'd give you an update on the ringtone situation. The link I provided above explains how to go through and create ringtones using music you already own. It works perfectly! I made three this evening and am ecstatic that my husband's ringtone is back to Black Dog and not the generic one I had before. Hooray!!

the only thing i would have concerns about is that KEYBOARD. If you are a texter, I do NOT recommend this phone. Otherwise, I think it's pretty cool :)

oh, and i like strawberry shortcake with the caramel, whip cream, NO CHERRIES or MAYONNAISE!!!! lolz

Only if your going to use the internet and get a data plans, otherwise, just get a regular phone. http://www.bigtickettowealth4u.com
