Boom. Boom, boom. Boom, boom, boom!

Oct 9, 2009
Just a quick update for my Kaboodle peeps if you've been missing me over the past week. We've got a major design review next week at work and I was supposed to have all the design documents out to the review board this week. Some got out, most got delayed due our tech writer getting sick, and I still have a couple left to polish off, so it's going to be a busy weekend. Once that's done, I actually need to get the presentation ready.

On top of that, next week is the fall cleanup in our neighborhood, so the spousal unit is pushing to get the garage cleaned up.

In short, I won't have much time to Kaboodle for the next week. Hopefully I'll be able to take some time off the following week, but they're trying to send me to DC, so we'll see.

It's been a pretty awesome week though. This morning the place I work crashed a rocket into the MOON, on purpose! I'm pretty sure we're the first group to ever do that. How awesome is that??? I watched from my backyard where I had a great view, unlike the huge (all-night) party they had at work, where it was overcast. (The picture is from The Times, and the title is a quote is from Commander Ivanova on Babylon 5.) I didn't actually work on the project, but I can't adequately describe how cool it is to work someplace where we do that sort of thing. Then tonight on my bike ride home I got buzzed by an F-18 doing a crazy roll and pitch air brake maneuver, just a few hundred feet directly over my head. That was cooler than the King Air that buzzed about 60 feet over me on final approach, but no where near as cool as the fighter that went supersonic just a couple thousand feet over my head when I visited Dryden at Edwards Air Force base (same day I saw the Shuttle and got treated by the flight surgeon when he was done with the astronauts).

So yes, I've been working like a mad man, but the job has really unique perks.

Wow! That sounds awesome! Where do you work? NASA?

I am so glad you are doing well. You have a lot coming up and a lot that has happened, dut don"t get me wrong that is great. Just once in awile just stop and take a breather. It sounds like you will be soon. You just don't want to wear your self down and get sick like the others. Thank care!!! : }

The "bombing" of the moon has been all over the blogs I read - must be exciting to be there....

If you make it to DC, try to carve out a little time for you too. It's such a fun town!

See you soon.

@dreapuff: Yes, Ames Research Center in Mountain View specifically, although our project is under the Agency Office of the CIO, so we work with all the other centers, many of which I've visited.

@kelsjax: Oh, that was another thing: I had my dose of the swine flu week before last. Extremely mild, but I missed a day of work when I couldn't really afford to do so.

@berbur: I always try. One of the problems is that I can easily carve out time for myself in the morning or evening, but all the cool sights (like the Smithsonian) are closed then. At least I normally get to see a few friends.

i feel you on the being to busy thing. i feel like i've been meeting myself coming in the door as i walk out this past week.
