Interactive Pets

Aikiou Stimulo...
My family and I are thinking of getting new pets, and as we do the eye tends to stray towards fun items for them. This one I caught in an advertisement, but it was the neatest thing. Can't quite decide how my older pets would enjoy it, but I think perhaps my future younger ones would get a kick out of it.

Is the concept sound though? The idea is to encourage more of a challenge to their feeding schedule that may be closer to their hunter natures. Reading through some of the reviews I can see that it can go both ways.

On the one hand, the stations may work as promised to give your pet more excitement in their day. Some have even used it to slow down any pets that tend to eat too fast. On the other hand, does it encourage mischievous behavior?

On the whole reviews are very positive. I'm curious if any of you out there have used something like this. They have them for both dogs and cats. Would it be worth it? Or does this come down to individual pet preferences?

  • I've never tried anything like this but have heard stories about stuff like this, putting food in balls that are made for it, hiding food in a younger sibling's shoe (made that one up). They do it at zoos too, hide the food. I guess it fights boredom and keeps them sharp, maybe it lets them earn it in a way. Report Spam Posted by markblemish at 10:19 PM on 01/30/12

  • There's a lot of individual preference, which might mean that you have to try out a few different things. It's also more ideal to start this kind of feeding early. My cats are a little older, but I've noticed that one cat will eat a lot at once and so fast that she starts puking. So I've tried using a couple different feeding tactics to get her to slow down and not eat so much, but so far there's only been minimal improvement. She's obsessed with the food bowl being completely full even if she doesn't want to eat right then. Personally, I would definitely give this a try as a supplement to her toy-feeder and take away the regular food bowls so that she doesn't harass other family members into giving her what she wants.
