Holgawood Camera
NYC - Radio City Music...
ASOS | ASOS Buckle Detail...
Hey everyone, I hope you all had a great holiday!  I received some really awesome presents, and I wanted to share a few of them with you.

The first is the Holga camera from Urban Outfitters.  I am really excited about this gift.  It is a retro-reproduction camera that takes photos that are sort of artfully bad.  The photos come out warm and fuzzy around the edges, with a slight fisheye distortion.  It takes specialty film, so I'm going to need to order it off the internet in the future.  I'm also a little concerned I wont be able to find a place around here to develop this kind of film.  Assuming I get that sorted out, I plan on using this camera to take source photos for my paintings.

I also got this lovely print (Decemberists tour poster) which is far more gorgeous in person.  Band posters are my favorite affordable way to own art.

From ASOS I got this sweet bag, which I really love.  It's a great size and hangs attractively as a shoulder bag.  I'm using it as my day time carry-all (I tend to carry a ton of stuff.)  I've never ordered anything from this company before (they're in England) and I'm very pleased.  Affordably priced as well.

Are any of you Holga owners?  Do you have any advice for me?

  • Oh i love how the photos look, but unfortunately i do not know much about them....That bag is super cute though. Yeah i agree with @berbur - post some pictures when you can, that would be awesome! Report Spam Posted by crazyemm at 2:18 PM on 01/03/10

  • I love those cameras-I've been wanting a Diana camera for a long time :) I've found that most small chain/local camera stores carry and/or develop 120 film, and if they don't develop on site they can either send it off or tell you where to send it to be developed. If you don't have any local camera stores, just try googling it, there are many places where you mail in the film and they'll develop it for you Report Spam Posted by trippingxeyes at 2:30 PM on 01/03/10

  • cool gifts, tht bag is pretty[: Report Spam Posted by amysocoolx3 at 4:37 PM on 01/03/10

  • I love love love the bag! As far as the Holga goes, you can buy an adapter to change the film from 120 to 35mm. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/494645-REG/Holga_155120_35mm_Film_Adapter_Kit.html. 35mm is def cheaper than 120 film:) Report Spam Posted by naominh at 6:45 PM on 01/03/10

  • I gave my bf a Holga for his birthday, my profile pic is a photo he took with it :) He sends his film here http://www.dwaynesphoto.com/ to get developed. He has looked all over and this is the cheapest place to get 120mm film developed. A roll of 12 exposure 4x4 b&w prints costs $5.99, hope this helps :) Report Spam Posted by soofaye at 8:13 PM on 01/03/10

  • I LOVE that bag. I may steal it for my list. ;) And I like Holga photos, but I have no hands-on experience with them. Good luck! Report Spam Posted by anna_panda at 6:47 AM on 01/04/10

  • Love the Holga camera!!! : } Report Spam Posted by kelsjax at 9:14 AM on 01/04/10

  • I agree that band posters are supremely awesome art. My favorite was a Guster poster I had from several years ago with their "big furry friend" attacking a city on it. I loved that poster. The Decemberists poster is lovely - I'm sure it's even more so in person! Report Spam Posted by gregsgal at 2:14 PM on 01/04/10

  • I love the poster, and your other gifts are great too! My best friend had some Holga photos taken at her wedding, and they turned out really fun. Report Spam Posted by lynnie482 at 4:00 PM on 01/04/10

  • awesome stuff! i have a holga and i love it!!! the one downside to it is the expense though, so i don't use mine as much as i would like to because of that... i have a place in my town that sells the 120 film and develops it, it costs about $5 a roll for the film and its $1.00 per print to develop.. maybe check your phonebook for a local photo lab. i have gotten some amazing shots from it though. i once ordered this film online called Ilford SFX 200 Infrared 135-36 Black & White Print Film (here it is at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Ilford-Infrared-135-36-36-exp-ISO-200/dp/B00005YWB2 and i took some really cool black and white infrared shots in the mountains in north carolina. they are framed in my living room now and are probably my fav pics ive ever taken. good luck with your camera, have fun with it!! =] oh, and i love the decemberists poster too!
