New Year, New Hair Style

Katie Holmes
Sideswept bangs Haircut...
It's a New Year and I need a new hair style. I think I'm finally ready to try a shorter do.

Which one do you think would look good? Or let me know if there is another style I should go for. I have some other pics at http://www.kaboodle.com/janecool/hairstyles-w-bangs.html

I've made an appointment with my stylist for Saturday for a hair cut and highlights. I'm super excited!!

Some Updates
I've never really had short hair before. It's always been well below my shoulders.
My hair is pretty straight, most days I leave the house without blow drying it, just towel drying.
I did get my bangs too short during my last hair cut, so I won't be making that mistake again.
I'll definitely post a pic after my cut.

Another Update
I was all set to go today, but my son started throwing up last night, so he comes first. So I'm going to get the cut and some highlights next Saturday.

  • I would go for pic #3 but with #1's bangs! Please share a picture after you get your new cut! Report Spam Posted by clothesminded at 3:12 PM on 01/06/11

  • Okay, I just answered your poll, but I'm writing more here. #1 Is this your first time going short? If so, DEFINITELY start by telling your stylist you want it a longer length. (i.e. #3.) See how it looks before going any shorter! #2 As I said when answering your poll, I like longer bangs, but that's due to my own experience. I have a very pronounced cowlick (gap) in my bangs, and when I've cut them shorter in the past, I look absolutely ridiculous. If you don't have a cowlick, by all means, consider the shorter bangs. If you do... Beware! In any case, don't be afraid to tell the hairdresser EXACTLY what you have in mind, and speak up if you think she's going too short. And GOOD LUCK! ♥ Report Spam Posted by sorapandora at 4:48 PM on 01/06/11

  • P.S. Keep in mind that this cut needs everyday styling with a flat iron if your hair is not TOTALLY straight. Report Spam Posted by sorapandora at 4:49 PM on 01/06/11

  • I really love Nicole Richie's hair. It's sleek and short, but still long enough to put in a ponytail. Report Spam Posted by gregsgal at 6:29 PM on 01/06/11

  • I like Nicole Richies,it's not to short and can still be pulled back(it's a security thing, lol) Report Spam Posted by theaccessoriesnook at 6:36 PM on 01/06/11

  • I like three. Report Spam Posted by betsy2you at 7:56 PM on 01/06/11

  • I like the first one the mostest =] It would look great on you! Report Spam Posted by dreapuff at 11:12 PM on 01/06/11

  • Oh how exciting, well as long as you aren't going pixie just remember if you're not happy it always grows back, I've almost always had long hair, done a few shortish clips along the way, and grew it back. I too have been in hairstyle research mode last few days, maybe just maybe I'm ready for a change. I love that Katie Holmes long bob but it wouldn't work for me my hair is very very think which makes many shortish styles not work so well. Report Spam Posted by kshoffman at 11:56 PM on 01/06/11

  • ooo I like the layers in #3 but the length and longer bangs in #1. I think it'll really look cute on you! :o) Report Spam Posted by deeyama at 6:28 AM on 01/07/11

  • My favorite of the 3 is the middle. Report Spam Posted by rubyslippers at 6:48 AM on 01/07/11

  • I like #3, because I feel like shoulder length you can always tie back if you just can't deal. But you have great choices here. Report Spam Posted by lavabunny at 7:27 AM on 01/07/11

  • I would suggest the shoulder length one. Especially since you've never had super short hair before. With the shoulder length you can still put it up in a ponytail holder. Plus, the shock when you first wash your new short do can be over whelming. With the shoulder length you can always go back and get more cut off but if you hate the short hair...you can't ever add it back on;-) Report Spam Posted by emiliemarie713 at 7:59 AM on 01/07/11

  • I think the third picture might be a good idea, it's the longest of the three and like @lavabunny said, you can always tie it back. Plus, if you let your hair dry naturally this style could still work with a loose wave. Report Spam Posted by x0xsharicex0x at 1:22 PM on 01/07/11

  • I like the versatility of Nicole's style myself... but you'll be cute no matter what. MarieClaire.com has a Virtual Hair Salon where you upload a picture of yourself and try on different cuts. Sometimes it doesn't work out so great but you can get a good idea of how a certain cut works with your face shape, etc. Report Spam Posted by vntgbabe at 4:12 PM on 01/07/11

  • Nicole Ritchies is my favorite one by far Report Spam Posted by earthangel67 at 10:12 AM on 01/08/11

  • i love nicoles Report Spam Posted by hollywallygator at 9:12 PM on 01/09/11

  • i think you could go for pic #2 or #3. #2 looks like it can work on you since you already have that color. Report Spam Posted by danni6 at 5:12 AM on 01/10/11

  • Hey!! Go with something closer to Nicole Ritchie's style. You will look fabulous with a choppy shoulder length bob with bangs....but you need to be able to pull it back in a ponytail. Report Spam Posted by kimreiter at 1:11 PM on 01/11/11
