Stocking Stuffers

6 ›
Mesh Christmas Stockings
I know, we're barely at Halloween, why I am rushing to Christmas already? I have a good reason. Usually in December, we have our friends over and we do Secret Santa and White Elephant.

But I thought to surprise everybody, I would also give everybody a stocking stuffed with stuff. But my family has never done it before and neither has my husband.

I need some suggestions on what to put inside them. It would also be a great tradition to start with our 1 year old son.

I also need suggestions early enough so I can actually buy the products for all the stockings, somewhere between 12-20.

Help!

  • I love stockings but I go WAY overboard with them. In fact I usually end up using giant gift bags instead of actual stockings. I try to personalize them according to what each person likes. For my husband, I usually give small, inexpensive but handy gadgets/tools; for my stepdaughter I like makeup and hair products or inexpensive jewelry. Then I fill with things everyone likes such as unique candies, CDs, iTunes cards or Starbucks gift cards. I often find cute little inexpensive things here and there like earbud winders for your iPod, funny keychains, scented anti-bac or lotion - basically anything inexpensive that catches my eye and that I would like to have in my stocking. Just have fun with it. And set a budget! It's so easy to go overboard. :-P Report Spam Posted by vntgbabe at 9:57 PM on 10/29/10

  • Great ideas! We do this in my family, too, and it's so much fun! More ideas for the girls might be bath gels and body creams, makeup brushes, packs of notecards, lip balm, little kitchen gadgets, etc. For the boys, gift cards (like iTunes) are awesome... also, shaving stuff, socks, CD's, travel-sized toiletries.... and for anyone, you can put fun little candies, chocolates etc (there are tons of stocking-sized packages available at the holidays).Definitely check the $1 bins at Target -- there are often some fun little things in there! Oh, and I always buy everyone a lottery ticket. :-) Report Spam Posted by sasha_d at 10:49 AM on 10/30/10

  • I love what everyone has said..I do the same thing and make sure I add everyones favorite treats. Plus we have a tradition of getting new jammies on christmas so they go in there to. Report Spam Posted by toshiba1 at 2:49 PM on 10/30/10

  • Anything that will fit! haha My mom always put small gifts in mine. Hair accessories, makeup, jewelry, candy, tree ornaments, things like that. Report Spam Posted by rubyslippers at 3:57 PM on 10/30/10

  • Great answers so far! In my family, anything that can fit into a stocking is a potential stocking stuffer. :)I always like to include gift cards, candy and cosmetics (for the girls). Report Spam Posted by weslee at 4:36 PM on 10/30/10

  • What we got when we were growing up is some oranges, apples, and candy and nuts<3 Love, Linda Report Spam Posted by hawklns1 at 11:20 AM on 10/31/10

  • I'm with Linda ^^^ stockings in my family were oranges, apples and other random items. They were phased out before I was old enough to get a stocking though ; ) I've never made a stocking for anyone but all the ideas that the above people have posted are fab. • To keep costs down check the dollar stores and party outlet stores for small items like party beads for littlegirls, small party favor toys, jump ropes, lip balm, crayons or markers, color book, puzzle books, emery boards, small windup toys, and sample size health and beauty products, packets of instant hot chocolate, flavored tea or coffees, antibacterial wipes, playing cards,Christmas jewelry Report Spam Posted by vklb at 7:52 PM on 11/03/10

  • The only time I have ever done stockings it was candy, and knick-knack sort of things that you wouldn't really give as presents. Oh, yes and a really silly book- because we were adults, but for a small child I imagine anything wrapped is fabulous. Report Spam Posted by lavabunny at 11:42 AM on 11/04/10

  • My mom loves filling stockings. I still get one from her, even though I haven't lived at home in about 10 years. She loves buying holiday candy, so I get a lot of that (well over a pound), sometimes small pieces of jewelry (earrings, necklaces, bracelets, charms), books, CDs, DVDs, Archie comics, small stuffed animals, cute/quirky office supplies, Sanrio things (she likes Hello Kitty), chopsticks, and oranges. Always oranges. Report Spam Posted by lynnie482 at 9:40 PM on 11/04/10
