My First Festival Experience

13 ›
Dainty Red and Blue... Camera Necklace Leopard Flower and Bead... Tree Photo Locket... Rose and Smokey Bead... Bird and Leopard Heart...
So I went to my first festival in Tomball Texas called the Rosehill Festival.  With promises of a festival event, a band, produce and many vendors with limited space so I better send her a check to save my spot.  I drove past downtown tomball about 10 miles to the country! Ahh! This was no festival at all.  A corner of grass area with broken huge tree limbs covering the stage. Overgrown grass and we were between 2 gas stations and a very dirty taco truck that the men kept coming out of and hosing their bodys down with water and smiling at us. There were 2 other vendors that was their first time there. The promoter sold cow hide and rocking chairs. She then came over and said well the band broke down.  Vendors are just not showing up and everyone pretty much just decided not to come. hmm sounds suspicious.  The lady next to me said honey I been doing this for years and all promoters lie.  Well I would like to think not but this lady... well ya I think she lied a bit! The whole day 12 people came.  I was sooooo disappointed.  Anyways I learned to never go there again.  The lady next to me also gave me lots of pointers for my future events. I got to spend time with my dad and I learned how to set up a table LOL!  Anyways I am now getting ready for a Arts, vintage and craft fair in San Francisco soooo I am hoping this will be better!

  • Sorry your experience wasn't so good. Good luck on future shows. I went to one where I only sold a few things(and I mean very few)so wil go to a different one this year. Report Spam Posted by vklb at 5:00 PM on 07/30/10

  • That sucks but, as @kristenleanna said, take what you can learn from it. It's awesome that you're ready to pick up and do it again. Good luck! Report Spam Posted by miss_daphne at 6:35 PM on 07/30/10

  • that sucks, but you write well and loved reading your very detailed description....and glad you are moving on to bigger n' better shows....best of luck! Report Spam Posted by artisangoods at 8:57 PM on 07/30/10

  • I guess all of life is learning, right? Keep your upbeat attitude, your work speaks for itself, best of luck in S.F. Report Spam Posted by markblemish at 9:39 PM on 07/30/10

  • Are you IN texas? Why not try the Rennasaince Fest or Mosquito Fest. There's a ton of really reputable and good ones every year. If I were a jewelry artist, I'd die to get a table at the Armadillo Festival in Austin, every December-ish. If you have old stuff there is the Martyn Farm Festival. Just look up festivals in Texas and only go to the well known ones. Forget the small lying promoters. For every 5 podunk fake fests you spend money on, there could be one large festival that the money went toward. And good luck! You have a lotta courage to do that.
