Happy New Year and Our Christmas Festivities

28 ›
Happy New Year!

Hello Kaboodle friends. First I want to wish everyone a wonderful New Year. May 2011 bring you peace, health, and prosperity in some way shape or form!  We'll probably hang at home New Year's Eve and do our own brand of celebration ... some good eats, and other stuff.  Maybe I'll even partake in a drink or two (I drink maybe 2-3 times a year lol)  Anyway, everyone who will be out partying, stay safe out there! Oh, and just in case you might want to try these Appalachian New Year's traditions my mom taught me (and she actually calls me every year to make sure I did them lol), put your empty wallet on the porch at before midnight and don't bring it in until after midnight (for luck and prosperity, though my wallet seems to still be empty when I bring it in off the porch lol), and eat pork and sauerkraut New Year's Day (if you're not Jewish of course!), and there might be something about burying a wet dish rag for luck but that could also be to get rid of a wart, or is that bury a potato, hum .... I also thought I would take this opportunity to share our Christmas with ya'll.  We got together at my Mom's Christmas day including all five of my adults "kids", my two SILs, my Mom and our three grandchildren. No big fashion statements happening here, mostly the "rolled out of bed, cleaned up, and throw some clothes on" look.lol  Jess always has to dress festively, Whit always dresses up a bit,and the rest of us just go for comfort. You do get to see the ModCloth gifts I bought my three daughters -- I think they were all happy! I put together a little slide show here. Hope you enjoy ...If you want to know who's who you'll have to go to the gallery and read the captions. :)

  • Y'all are so cute! Report Spam Posted by mollyjotx at 10:00 AM on 12/31/10

  • @ajohns - she needs big squeezes, we've been struggling for months to figure why she was ill and not growing and she has finally been diagnosed with something called Eosinophilic Disease. Luckily for us one of the top research/treatment centers in the country for children with this disease is in Cincinnati and close by. The disease is kind of complicated to explain but she can't eat (virtually any) foods, is currently drinking a special formula for her nutrition (solely that), and if that doesn't work she has to get a permanent g-tube (stomach tube) for feeding so nothing goes down her esophagus causing lesions. On bright side she can live her life just fine with the g-tube if it comes to that. Her mom is my daughter who had a liver transplant at 3 yrs of age and who has also had catastrophic/chronic illness from birth and even beyond transplant so we have two generations of miracles to be thankful for amongst other things! Ellie will be Whitney's only child. To say Ell is spoiled rotten is an understatement lol. Report Spam Posted by kshoffman at 10:22 AM on 12/31/10

  • @sorapandora - thanks so much, Ellie is a hoot, right now she tries to mimic everything her cousins do, and what an odd little child, her favorite toys are talking dogs and her favorite shows and movies are ... you guessed it, talking dogs lol. She can watch Scooby Doo for hours on end. Report Spam Posted by kshoffman at 2:00 PM on 12/31/10

  • @anna_panda, @mollyjotx, @bb60477 thanks so much for looking at the shots. Family is our most treasured thing so I like to share mine with others, I think we're a bunch of good eggs :) Report Spam Posted by kshoffman at 2:02 PM on 12/31/10

  • @stelllar thanks for looking, Ell is so adorable, she's our little fashionista I'm sure her wardrobe costs about 20x what mine does rofl. Some day I'll have to post more of her dress up shots, very cute. She's been wearing glasses for over a year now as she is extremely nearsighted. Funny how she got used to them so quickly at only a year old, she'd wake up looking for her specs lol. Yeah, the girls all seemed happy with their gifts. I so want those wedges I got Jess, they are really cool looking, sort of like vintage ice or roller skates lol. Report Spam Posted by kshoffman at 2:05 PM on 12/31/10

She wanted to make one for her dad and I said no I would not go out with him in a cap with deers humping, well probably Walmart would be okay lol Report Spam Posted by kshoffman at 8:10 PM on 12/31/10

  • You got it, but I refuse to pray for the humping deer. Report Spam Posted by markblemish at 8:29 PM on 12/31/10

  • I had never heard of that disease before. I am so sorry! I can't imagine how difficult it is for you and your daughter to have your little sweetheart be ill. I hope she does not have to get the feeding tube.. I will say a prayer for her. She is so precious. I feel so bad for your daughter. We never want to see our little ones ill. • yay Christmas!! Report Spam Posted by sweeetkristen at 10:13 PM on 01/03/11

  • Need to comment again. Ellie is just too cute. I want to steal her and bring her home and bake her cookies. Beware! That is too cute about the talking dogs. When I was little, it was all about cats. My favourite movies were Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey and The Three Lives of Thomasina. You should rent "Bingo" for her! It's a funny kid's dog movie. Report Spam Posted by sorapandora at 8:19 PM on 01/04/11

  • @sorapandora - she is that cute lol. She'd love to have you bake cookies but she can't eat them. She can have her special formula and four other things that won't send her eosiniphils in a tizzy . are you ready for this .... pixie sticks, dum dum suckers, cotton candy, an smarties. Apparently there are NO natural ingredients in these things. It's natural ingredients her body can't handle, no meat, no grains, no fruit, no vegetables, no dairy products. She can handle sugar to an extent. Her formula is made up of synthetic amino acides, that's how she gets her protein. Of course easy for us adults to be very upset about this, she could care less lol Report Spam Posted by kshoffman at 9:20 PM on 01/04/11

  • @sorpandora - forgot to say, she wanted Go Go My Walking Pup for xmas but I got her LuLu My Cuddlin Kitten instead it was much cheaper lol Report Spam Posted by kshoffman at 9:22 PM on 01/04/11

  • that was so lovely to read and watch... thanks for sharing. ♥ Report Spam Posted by pippiphooray at 6:23 AM on 01/07/11
