Playing Bridesmaid!

It's that time in my 25 years of living where my friends are starting to get hitched. In the past two weeks, I've been lucky enough to go to two weddings. While both were lovely, the past wedding I went to was very special. My freshman year roommate Christine got married to her college sweetheart (who I am lucky to know well AND love). As if that couldn't get any sweeter, she asked all three of our freshman year roommates to be her bridesmaids!
I've never been a bridesmaid before, so this was all news to me. When she first asked me, I was honored, but felt I needed a serious 101. Was there a book I could read? A you-tube instructional video to watch? SOMETHING?!
Here are a few things I learned along the way:
- Show up on time to all things bridal related. No seriously, SHOW UP ON TIME unless you want to see a bridezilla (luckily, Christine was not at all)
- You can buy a gift off of the registry, but I think it's nice to add a personal touch to a wedding gift especially if you're in the wedding party (I'm going to paint her something for her new house)
- Invest in a good pair of Spanx - they will be your new best friend in pictures (helloooo, those pictures are forever)
- Put together a "First Aid: Wedding Edition" for those sneaky little "just-in-cases". For example, we put together a bag of tums, gum, mints, hairspray, lipgloss, bobbypins, Kleenex, Tide pen, deodorant, etc. No mistakes on my watch!
- Get ready for a long (fun!) day, so invest in a comfy pair of shoes/sandals during the reception
- Make sure the bride is happy. If the bride is happy, everyone is happy!
- Smile down that aisle. No one wants to see an unhappy bridesmaid!
- Listen to the bride - it's her day, yours will come!
- And last (but never least on my list), put on those dancing shoes!
