Need Your Makeup Remover Recommendations!

Oct 8, 2008 in Beauty
J&J Baby Bedtime Oil...
Pampers Sensitive Wipes...
Guys, I need your makeup remover recommendations desperately. I currently use a combination of Johnson's Baby Oil and Pampers Sensitive wipes to remove my makeup. It takes the makeup off really well, but there's the whole oily residue issue.

I have messed around with a Dior makeup remover and I really like it, but I'm not sure it's for me long-term. I've also tried a bunch of drug store stuff and all of it burns my eyes.

So, what can you recommend for removing heavy eye makeup on sensitive eyes? I would like it to also take off the rest of my face makeup with no weird residues, no extra rinsing beyond my normal skincare, all that good stuff. Help!

Have you tried any cleansing clothes? I use Philosophy's Purity Made Simple, it's really gentle but still removes make-up. Phisoderm is also supposed to be the absolute gentlest cleanser out there and is a drugstore brand. I also live by Avene's Micellar Cleanser. It's a no-rinse lotion cleanser that you put on a cotton round, it's great for quickly taking off make-up. They also make the best & most gentle eye make-up remover (my eyes are very sensitive too!). i recently discovered Caudalie's Cleansing Water. it's pretty great for me at least & works the best out of anything i've ever tried. it's soothing, cleansing, & a little moisturizing as well. but, this is just my experience with it. =] sephora's description if interested: What it is: A soap-free, three-in-one cleanser, makeup remover, and toner for face and eyes that's perfect for all skin types - even the most sensitive.

Have you tried Rimmels's makeup remover? I don't get any burning with it. Sometimes I also use regular Vaseline to remove eye makeup.

Good topic. I've battled this many times before. I LOVE Lancome's Bi-Facial eye makeup remover. It's super sensitive on the eyes and does an amazing job at taking all of the gunk off. The bottle goes a long ways too.

Estee Lauder's Take it Away is awesome. We used to use it to clean stubborn makeup stains off the counters when I worked for Lauder. It's amazing.

Wow, thanks for all of the recommendations, everyone! I can tell I'm going to be really busy trying all of these out.

Just curious do you wash your face before you use the makeup remover, or vice versa? Usually u can find a makeup remover in a face wash. Also is it mainly the mascara that your needing to do double time removing? If so have you ever heard about mascaras that tube? Kevyn Aucoin and Blinc's kiss me mascara are two that I love. You only take warm water and a little bit of pressure and the mascara comes off in particles. No smudges!

Some makeup remover+face washes that I recomend are Bliss' Fabulous Foaming Face wash, Ole Henriksen's On the Go Cleanser, & Fresh Soy face cleanser. These are all safe to use around the eyes!

I don't wear a lot of make-up so I'm no expert at the matter, but I do have some Lancome Bi-Facil Eye makeup remover that I whip out when I have to wear water-proof mascara (for things like weddings *tears*). I have very sensitive skin and it never irritates or dries out my eye area.

I've been also looking for a new makeup remover. I've been satisfied with Pond's Clean Sweep Towelettes, but I want to try something new.

Korres makes a good one

@ makeupgrace, it is mainly my mascara and eyeliner that won't come off with just a baby wipe, yes. Sometimes when I wear a particularly cheap brightly colored eye shadow I have trouble getting that off, too.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

When I need to remove make-up on the cheap or when I have red or puffy eyes I don't use remover. I take a soft cotton ball or a soft cloth and put a bit of olive oil on it and use that as a remover. The olive oil soaks into the skin better than mineral based oils and is still super cheap! Plus I find a lot of the conventional removers bother my eyes if they are tired, puffy, red or irritated in any way, so it is a lot more soothing than those removers.

Thanks for the tip, elenalee. I can try that one without making a trip to a store, so it's definitely at the top of my list.

Like elenalee, I use olive oil as a makeup remover as well - I love it because it's natural and it moisturizes!

For eye makeup, I use Mary Kay's oil-free eye makeup remover. Best. Stuff. Ever. I have a sample bottle somewhere and my friend sells MK, so I can always score freebies.

Miche, I would totally love to steal a sample from you to try it!

I will get you some :-)

WITHOUT A DOUBT, the best eye makeup remover is Pond's Cold Cream. I've been using it since I started wearing makeup and my mom has, too. I use Neutrogena (or off-brand) wet facial cloths to take face makeup off at night, and Pond's the next morning after I take a shower. Trust me, the stuff is the BEST!

By the way, all my college roommates use it now too after seeing how easily it took off my eyeliner and mascara! ;)

I love Mary Kay's. I've used it for 10 years and its amazing. I've recently fallen in love with baby wipes. They take off all the mascara, eyeliner AND foundation, they are also very inexpensive

Unscented sensitive baby wipes (by Pampers) are what I've been using. I find they're not good for taking off makeup along my lash line and waterline. But they've definitely been a great value. I'm just getting old enough that it's time to start using things that protect and nurture my skin better.

I use Rimmel on a regular basis, but Almay makes remover AND remover pads in a sensitive formula and they work like a dream! I just switched to Rimmel because it's cheaper and is often packed free with the mascara I buy.

Cool, I'll have to try that out!

i would never trade my lancome bi-facil makeup remover for any other makeup remover in the market. I have tried tons of them and that beats them all.

I ordered a bunch of the recommendations from Sephora and that's one of them!

Sephora has its own line of makeup remover, and it is hands down the best I have ever used. Plus, it's under 10 bucks last time I checked. I wouldn't use anything else. Only downside is that it can be almost impossible to get in stores, so try online.

Cool. I'll have to try that out, too.
