Paris and Jean Paul Gaultier

"After seeing Black Swan a few months ago, Jean Paul Gaultier chose to give his label the ballet treatment for Fall 2011 couture. Hence, tutu-like peplums on jackets, toe shoe-inspired heels, and a prevalence of black feathers (in a nod to the Darren Aronofsky's aforementioned film). Gaultier didn't leave his punkish roots behind, however, giving his signature Breton stripes the mink treatment, turning trenchcoats into evening dresses, and even employed a '90s model with the bald, tattooed head, who hasn't set foot on a runway in 15 years." This is the write up featured on Fashionologie.com, with two minor changes to delete links.
And here are some of Gaultier's designs. In my opinion, they are much more attractive than the previous designers discussed in my last blog. I am not, however, a big fan of mixing ballet inspired outfits with punk hair design. Perhaps some of my Kaboodle friends do enjoy this combination. If YOU are one of them, please leave a comment convincing me why these two styles are complementary.
I was not impressed with fur coats wearing "poodle" hair cuts either. At least Gaultier's looks were cohesive and some, imho, are quite beautiful. I am always interested in the design of gowns and I swooned over this designer's styles, which reminded me of the silky, satin fashions from the thirties. I think of Loretta Young and Marlene Dietrich when I see these sumptuous designs. His ivory and cream colors also seemed to come right from the height of the big movie era.
If you would like to see more, I have a list of Jean Paul Gaultier's items on my K page, and if you'd like to pick your favorite designs you can go to Fashionologie.com where you will find a whole list from the Paris show. Can't wait to read what you think of this group of fall fashions. Thanks so much for reading!
