(05/08/12) Featured Tips from The Collect Sewing Handbook: Seam Finishes Finishing raw edges will extend the life of your garment, keeping the cut edges of your fabric from raveling and possibly destroying the integrity of your seams. (05/08/12) Morris, a contributing editor at Threads magazine, clearly gets a kick out of sewing, and here she communicates this enthusiasm to the reader while covering thoroughly such lingerie sewing-related subjects as selecting the right pattern and fabric, adapting patterns and fitting, and finishing and embellishing. For Morris, lingerie includes not only underwear but also sleepwear and loungewear. Included are many tips and ideas for sewing "outside the box." For example, why not wear your sheets to bed, making sleepwear out of cotton or flannel sheets? Why not turn an oversized shirt pattern into a loungewear top? Public and academic libraries with sewing collections should put this title on their short list. Copyright 2001 Reed Business Information, Inc.See less

(05/08/12) "Doodle Stitching is a truly cute book...full of practical and whimsical projects that are neither boring or stodgy.... The projects section of Doodle Stitching shows how to make so many ordinary items special, such as pillow cases, skirts, shoes, shirts, scarves, boxer shorts and napkins. For those that like to take their creativity and sewing skills that little bit further, there are small projects to make and embroider,... This is a good book for beginner embroiderers that would like a fun place to start, for more experienced embroiderers that might have become a bit jaded with more traditional patterns and could do with some light inspiration, and for anyone that likes to look at well-designed craft books full of cute projects."--Whipup.netSee less
