(03/01/08) Utilizing a new high-resolution display technology called electronic paper, Kindle provides a crisp black-and-white screen that resembles the appearance and readability of printed paper. The screen works using ink, just like books and newspapers, but displays the ink particles electronically. It reflects light like ordinary paper and uses no backlighting, eliminating the glare associated with other electronic displays. As a result, Kindle can be read as easily in bright sunlight as in your living room. The screen never gets hot so you can comfortably read as long as you like. James Patterson, author of You've Been Warned, "The screen is fabulous. You would expect that, with a screen, there would be a glare, it would be hard to read but it's not. Theres no glare. It's not backlit, which is kind of magical. I think people are going to be very, very surprised and delighted. This is a lot easier to read than a lot of books are these days." Michael Lewis, author of Moneyball, "I'm telling...See less

(12/13/07) The Nintendo Wii is the most inexpensive of the current generation of gaming consoles. It provides motion sensing controllers and 480p graphics. We tested the Wii before its launch day (I'm a game reviewer), and we had our own unit in our home the morning of launch day. Here are our findings. The Wii is designed around a menu of "channels". There is of course the game-playing channel, where the Wii will play any Wii or GameCube game. Simply load the disc in and go. There is a Mii channel where you set up a profile and avatar to connect to all your game playing. The Photos channel lets you look at photos on your TV. Other channels for news, weather, and online shopping require an interent connection; the news and weather were not actually working at launch time. The system does NOT have a regular network cable port, which both the PS3 and XBox 360 have. Instead, it works with built in wireless or with a USB network adapter. I am a firm proponent of wireless - less clutter! So I am...See less

(10/29/07) In the future, TV will be televised Video iPods are the bee's knees, the cat's meow, and the aardvark's pajamas. You can watch video podcasts, hit TV shows, and movies stored magically on that itty bitty little device. The one drawback with this medium is the size - the actual physical size of the screen is so small, you may find yourself holding the iPod right up against your nose to see anything. We've got just the thing - video goggles that plug directly into your video iPod and project a virtual 24 inch TV directly in front of you! That's right - plugged directly into your iPod - no extra cables, adapters, or bulky power-packs necessary. These goggles don't even have batteries - they draw power directly from your iPod. Don't worry - they draw so little power, you probably won't even notice it. A 5th gen 30 Gigabyte iPod Video can run more than 2 hours, while the 80 Gigabyte iPod Video can run more than 4! Watch your favorite episode of The Office, catch up on Lost, or even watch...See less

(10/29/07) Rule Your Photos With an Iron-Fist... Wirelessly Obviously printed photos are so last-decade. Digital photo frames allow us to go directly from shooting to displaying our photos with no messy meatspace-based printed version needed. The eStarling 2.0 Wi-Fi Photo Frame takes this concept to the next level by connecting to your local Wi-Fi network and allowing you to send photos to it via e-mail or RSS photo feed. With full web-based access you can control exactly the photos you want on your eStarling frame at any time from anywhere in the word. E-mail photos as .jpg attachments and they appear on your frame. Choose a Flickr photo feed with the keyword "cool japanese robots" and soon your frame will be scrolling through nifty shots of highly desirable bots you will never get your hands on. New Photobucket integration allows you to add photos into rotation on your eStarling frame directly from the Photobucket website. You can of course send photos while on the go from your mobile phone,...See less
