(10/02/07) Ok, if you've seen Eddie Izzard onstage or in D2K and are addicted to his style of stand-up, you will definitely enjoy this. If you are looking that will make you fall on the floor laughing, go buy Dress to Kill or Glorious first. However Eddie Izzard's material is more than just for laughs; he's one of the few enterainers that offers more. This DVD offers just as many segments of him pointing out things that will make you double take your favorite movie, religion, history, etc. True, it is not nearly as funny as his other material, at least not this performance. And the bonus documentary on the disc explains why. In addition to being shouted at mid-show, the previous evening had the production team sweating over the sound blowing out with Eddie having to shout "from ze diaphragm," trying a cord mic, and having to apologize and take an intermission to fix the tech, keeping his cool the whole time. This one is still a brilliant and triumphant performance with gold material. The...See less

(10/02/07) Yes, I know, everyone likes Dress to Kill. I believe that is because that is the concert most people saw first, and there is noting quite like that first taste of something special. Dress to Kill is a great concert, but Definite Article is Eddie at his best. His regular references are not getting familiar and he does not creep into what I call the "serious dead spot" that shows up in his later shows where he gets more political or engages in some social commentary which is interesting, but not as entertaining. Definite Article is the concert I show my friends who have never seen him before and they are hopelessly hooked. Now that all his shows are on DVD (except Live at the Ambassadors. Sexie is on PAL DVD and, yes, I have that one too.) watch these two shows back to back and you will see what I mean. It won't change your opinion, but you will see Eddie at his hottest (Definite Article) and as he hits his stride in America (Dress to Kill). Some technical notes: The video quality is...See less

(10/02/07) 123 of 125 people found the following review helpful: Reviewer: A viewer Jeezee Chreezee...I initially passed on the HBO special, as the thought of a "Transvestite Comedian" didn't interest me. However, now that I know he's an "Executive Transvestite" who fancies girls, everything is better. Eddie's humor is NOT for the hard of thinking, nor for those who flunked world history..."Hitler wound up in a ditch, covered in petrol, on fire...and it was his wedding night as well! Double trouble!" His brilliant style of mixing humor with incredible body language makes him a treat to watch. His manipulation of the audience is brilliant, and the fact that he even laughs at the crowds reactions to things makes him even funnier! I have loaned my copy of DTK out to so many people, that the tape is almost worn out. However, I have converted everyone who's seen it into immediate fans. We as a group went to the "Circle" show in Seattle, and were incredibly entertained by his blend of history and...See less
