In Greek mythology, Calliope (Greek: Καλλιόπη Kalliope "beautiful-voiced", English pronunciation: /kəˈlaɪ.əpiː/ kə-LYE-ə-pee) was the muse of heroic poetry,[1] daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne, and is now best known as Homer's muse, the inspiration for the Iliad and the Odyssey. Report Spam

A calliope is also a musical instrument that produces sound by sending a gas, originally steam or more recently compressed air, through large whistles, originally locomotive whistles. It originates from the above. Report Spam

In the age of steam, the steam calliope was particularly employed on riverboats and in circuses. In both cases, a steam supply was already available for other purposes. Riverboats supplied steam from their propulsion boilers. Circus calliopes were sometimes installed in steam-drive carousels, or supplied with steam from a traction engine which might also supply electric power for lighting and tow the calliope in the circus parade, in which it traditionally came last. Other circus calliopes were self-contained, mounted on a carved, painted and gilded wagon pulled by horses, but the presence of other steam boilers in the circus meant that fuel and expertise to run the boiler were readily available. Report Spam

I'm a big fan of carousels I have quite a few pictures through the years of my parents and I on them. One picture especially that means so much to me is when I was just a baby sitting on a carousel horse and my Dad is behind the horse helping me to hold on. Report Spam

I think so. This list came along at the right time for a friend of mine. She just found out this week that she is 17 weeks plus along. Due Dec. 29th and it's a girl. She thought she had an ulcer and went to the doctor and got a wonderful surprise. Report Spam
