Black toilet paper has been around in the hopping clubs and hotels in Europe for quite a while already, but we were amazed how few people actually knew about this stateside. Made by Renova in Portugal, it has been dermatologically and gynecologically tested, it is made of 100% biodegradable, virgin pulp that is chlorine-free and entirely recyclable, so basically a 3 ply, completely non-toxic, soothing tissue. But don't jump to conclusions, let us explain: Milan in May was filled with big furniture and huge brands and in the middle of all the pushing and shoving was this little display. Well actually it was quite big. It was in a corner at Designersblock and it was a lot of iPod-esque little devices singing. Well not really singing, more lip synching. Yes, it is true, we haven't taken anything... They were a bunch of prototypes, all designed by Mr Jones aka Crispin Jones and once we took a closer look, we saw cute little USB creatures (think Tamagochi all over again) that you plug into one of the many USB hubs you have sitting around, and when Tengu picks up music, it starts to sing (or sync) along... Tengu has 7 different facial (hmpf) expressions that it uses to lip sync, that are displayed in red LEDs over his white face... (11/29/08) Our first thought when we saw Qubus' Little Joseph for the first time was: 'What an unusual candle holder' ... but it was pretty much immediately followed by: 'oh how smart!' The Little Joseph candle holder, continuously changes over time and is a fascinating object to play with. It starts out pretty bald and some say 'bland', but over time, changes his appearance. Depending on what color wax you use, Joseph might have dark 'hair' or be white. Depending on how much you play with it, you can actually start 'designing' his hairstyle, or simply turn him into a bum by letting the wax simply run down... No, well, we were when these first came out, but that shouldn't disturb you in any way… In case you have no clue what we are talking about and simply don't understand why anybody would get excited about rubber bands, have a look at these super fun, silicone 'memory' rubber bands in the shape of various extinct or living animals.
