After all, who needs therapy when you've got a million kids hearing your pain on MTV? Staind has never been a band to gloss over personal issues. They've given their albums names like Torment and Dysfunction, and their lyrics delve deep into singer Aaron Lewis' difficult past. Contrary to the title, Staind's third release, Break the Cycle, sticks with the tormented cycle, covering the same themes of heartbreak, self-doubt, and broken homes. Lewis has almost three decades of personal material to mine, and as familiar as his issues are, Break the Cycle still feels like a new, honest look into difficulties that can hit people across the board. Ballads like "If You Leave" and "Homesick" could be mistaken for early demos by Athens's most beloved sons, but when the guitar solos kick in, it's classic Southern goodness. Luckily, Train don't derail themselves by sticking solely to greasy jams and high-wire guitar acrobatics. The San Francisco-based five-piece keep their slice-of-life sound simple and lean, never overdoing what doesn't need to be overdone. Frontman Patrick Monahan has a voice that was made for this material. (02/23/12) I have been a fan of the Cranberries for a very long time, and although I love each and every one of their cd's, this one is by far the best. Dolores writes and sings with such passion you too can not help but feel the exact emotion she felt in every song. Every song on here is marvelous and will just blow you away. From the up beat "Can't be with you," the anger driven "Zombie," to the moody "Daffodil Lament", you will find yourself lost and mesmorized by this cd. Do yourself a favor and forsake all the heartless POP music that is out now, and grab a copy of this CD, or any of their CD' for that matter. You will be happy you did and disappointed that you didn't sooner.See less
