The climate experienced around the Bühlerhöhe has a very particular characteristic: so-called temperature inversion. This means that while fog collects in the valley below, above a certain height the sun shines and the hotel can enjoy breath-taking clear views. On a good day, visitors can see all the way to the Vosges and the Alps. The rare lichen which grow on trees in the region demonstrate how good the climate and air are as they do not grow in polluted air. It's obvious why the region has such low pollution levels. Huge areas of forest produce high levels of oxygen and cleanse the air effectively. Bühlerhöhe is also a long way from the industry and traffic found in the Rhine valley. The climatic benefits of Bühlerhöhe have five different appeals: * the low air temperature * the reduced level of oxygen partial pressure * the clean and dry air * and good levels of radiation. In winter, the higher Black Forest areas have a very special allure: the sun up here shines for 30 percent longer than down on the plain. These special circumstances were the reason why weatherman Jörg Kachelmann set up a weather station at the Bühlerhöhe. Kachelmann, whose relaxed style of presentation resulted in a totally new form of weather reports in German television, addresses millions of viewers a day in his weather forecast ("Das Wetter im Ersten") on ARD, Germany's first and oldest public TV channel. Since April 2002, he has been working with Meteomedia AG to produce the weather data for ARD's weather programme, shown right after the day's headlines.
