Welcome to Wonderland! This little hat is from the house of the White Rabbit. Mini hats are so much fun, and this multi-media piece is a take on this Gothic Lolita style. This hat starts with a felt base that has been speckle painted in white over the black. It has a high quality acid free black stripe paper band, a polymer clay "clock" at the front, a fan of lace at the back and a hand felted Bunny Head, a lovely bust of the very popular and always rushed White Rabbit. The felted head is done in a natural, hand washed, and carded wool, that came from student raised local sheep. I felted the piece with a loop at the back so that it can be removed and used as a brooch, or other accessory, cause I just couldn't bring my self to tie this little guy down permenately. These hats are designed to be worn on the top of the head, the will not "fit" as a traditional hat would, except on maybe a very small child or doll. The hat's front is covered with a short veil of gathered black tulle, and the band is black satin ribbon. It is adorned with a puff of black marabou feathers, a green feather "leaf" and a small fuschia fabric rosebud. It is attached with two long tulle ties, which can be knotted under the chin or tied at the back of the head, increasing the mourning veil look. We can add a hair comb for extra methods of attachment if you request it (you can also use bobby pins on the ties near the hat for further security). Tarina Tarantino launched a crystal pavé top hat exclusively for Revolve Clothing. Made of gold Swarovski crystals, the hats retails for $1000 dollars. Only five were made. I will not get into the style quotient or actual wear-ability of the piece because I know some of you can actually make it work. What I do challenge though–aside from the Swarovski crystals, is the use of relatively cheap materials as adornments to the hat. Tulle is usually one of the cheapest fabrics you can find, as well as gold-colored beads, which are often used in carnival beads. Seriously Tarina,what about silk ? Or Embroidery? Have you ever looked at a bridal saree ? And as a talented jewelry designer, there are so many ways to adorn with taste and luxury that would at least justify the hefty price tag.
