CARGO’S Gadgety Glosses

Posted by jinnyjinn on Mar 18, 2009

Just when you thought futuristic makeup was a fad that would end with motorized mascaras, we now have lip glosses with “Timestrip technology,” which translates to the ability to automatically tell you when your makeup has past its prime. CARGO’s new line of lovely lip glosses comes with this nifty new feature. Just slip its accompanying strip into  the cap upon opening. The strip gradually turns red. When it’s entirely rouge, your gloss is a goner. What? You didn’t know makeup expires? That’s right! Like milk, it gets old and turns sour because every time you open the packaging, you expose it to bacteria. That, and the older your lip gloss or mascara is, the more sticky, clumpy, and yucky it gets. Maybe futuristic makeup isn’t a fad after all!

Do you think cosmetics should have expiration dates on them?

This is kind of ridiculous...

I do think cosmetics should come with expiration dates, but that means the stores would have to patrol the shelves, too. Some things, technically, are only supposed to be good for a few months, like a tube of mascara is only supposed to last around 4 months.

@lavabunny - You're absolutely right--rule of thumb is that you're only supposed to use cosmetics for x number of months...unfortunately, I probably extend some of my makeup for twice as long as I should.

And I think we're a long way off from having expiration dates on products (like they do in Europe).

I use products way past when their expiration dates. It would be nice to know when they are, but maybe it would give me cosmetics OCD. lol!

i probably would give me cosmetics OCD. But i do think cosmetics should have an exp. date stamped on them.
