The ChallengeLast night, the eight remaining designers were challenged to create an extravagant stage look for Christina Aguilera. They were given $300 to spend at Mood and two days to create the look. Christopher said creating “an iconic look for an icon is frightening and exciting and exhilarating.” Nicolas began plotting a look made of lace, crystals, and ombré. He ran around Mood screeching, “More feathers!” While all the other designers stared at their sparkly fabrics wondering where to begin, Irina sat upon on her pedestal and criticized everyone. She said Shirin’s design “look[ed] like bargain basement.” Irina thinks she’s already won the entire show. Gordana began working, but then got stuck and had to get away from all the chaos in the workroom. She walked around and mumbled, sunk in a chair and then slid out of it. Whatever, she had immunity, so I think we both knew her design didn’t really matter.
Tim’s CritiquesTim made his rounds and decided to rain on Christopher’s parade first. He began with, “Here’s my general disappointment…” That’s a great way to begin a conversation. Tim told Christopher his outfit looked like an ice skating Halloween outfit. That’s got to hurt. Tim told Shirin her design looked like “student work.” She said, “Thank you, Tim.” I think it’s so silly how everyone always says, “Thank you, Tim,” after he comes around and tears their work to pieces. I guess they’ve learned how to take constructive criticism really well because in my head, I always hear them saying, “Thank you, Tim. Thank you for completely invalidating my original idea. I’ll go ahead and scrap the whole thing and start over with a mere few hours left. I’m sure I’ll thank you later.”
Oh, by the way, did anyone else hear that cheesy bow-chicka-wow-wow music playing when Logan was leaning over Carol Hannah’s work table and “distracting” her? Scripted romance or real crush? Either way, I’m intrigued, so I guess the producers have won this round.
The DesignsBob Mackie, fashion legend and costume designer, was one of the celebrity judges, along with Xtina herself, who donned a very Gaga-esque hairdo.
Nicolas: My favorite dress was Nicolas’
short silver number with feathers bouncing around. Xtina said Nicolas’ look “[was] a fun outfit, I could really shake and move on stage.”
Shirin: Heidi said
Shirin’s design
looked like an “upscale witch Halloween dress.” Heidi called Shirin’s
look “so dowdy.” Her black and white sheer paneled student-quality
dress sent her packing.
Christopher: Nina and Heidi told Christopher his breakaway
ruffled panty and corset look
was a “revisit of Christina’s Lady Marmalade costume.” Nina said
Christopher’s look “was tasteless” and Bob called it a “Pussycat Dolls”
costume. Not what you want to hear.
Logan: Xtina said
Logan’s design
“was giving me cave woman.” Bob said Logan’s zebra/fur dress was “too
long for a short dress” and that he could have made it shorter because
“on stage you can go all the way up to the crotch, you put diamonds on
the crotch, and you’re home free.” Best quote of the night.
Carol Hannah: Her long black
multi-textured gown was the winning look.
Don’t miss a single look from last night’s episode, including Althea’s, Gordana’s, and Irina’s designs. Catch them all right
here! Do you think Shirin deserved to go home? Are you annoyed with Irina’s higher than thou attitude?

as always, love to read your recaps! i really liked last nights show. glad carol hannah won a challenge. loved nicholas' look too. he did a great job. but whats with him always using white?
i love christina aguilera, but seriously, the look shes been wearing for the past few years is over for me. the bright lipstick. the hairstyle. idk, to me her look screams for something new!
and although ive been on christophers side, he should have been sent home yesterday. his garment was tacky. even worse, i could have done something like that. he needs to showcase his talent a little more than what he did with that two piece outfit.
I was sad to see Shirin go. Her dress wasn't fantastic by any means, but at least it wasn't something Christina had already done before and done much better...Plus Christopher had been in the bottom a few times before last night. Wasn't that Shirin's first time?
I want to like Irina - I typically like her designs, but her snide comments turn me off. She, Nicholas, and Althea all seem to have an "I'm better than everyone here" attitude about them that I cannot stand. I was ecstatic that Carol Hannah won last night's challenge. She has been one of my favorites all along.
Christoper rocked in the beginning but he's been below average the past few challenges. I like Irina's designs but not her attitude. Gordana should have gone home with that drippy dress. I bet she'll be next to pack up her things in the workroom.
My 3 favorite Project Runway designers of all time: Daniel V, Jay McCaroll and Christian Siriano.
@knoxygal, i lovedddd jay mccarolls runway show! god, i loved it. <3
@cupcakexo, I'll never forget those awesome retro headphones that color matched every ensemble. Jay's was one of the most original final runways ever! Also loved his wedding dress and the Empire State building inspired bodice for the Banana Republic challenge.
I really thought Christopher was going to go, or I was hoping anyway. And the Bob Mackie crotch quote - THAT was priceless! I thought Nina was going to pee her pants over it. ;-)
@vntgbabe, I think they've been giving Christoper a break just because he rocked on other challenges (like newspaper). And though I think Logan's work is decent, I think he's getting a break because he's totally hot. That diamond crotch quote was hilarious!
the moment between carol hannah and logan was hilarious - this is project runway, not a taylor swift song
@knoxygal, jay mccarolls show with the headphones was amazing. i just feel like the people in the past seasons have been way more creative with their designs than this season. although i still watch, although not completely satisfied, its still nice to see what people come up with.
i mean i wouldnt even know what to sketch in such short time. or what fabrics to pull in short time. so i do give them credit!
:] i love me some project runway convos!
oohh, and by the way, i forgot where i heard this but tim gunn is supposed to make a cameo in the new sex and the city movie!! yay. :]
@cupcakexo I adore Tim Gunn! And I completely agree that the past designers were more exciting. Maybe I'm just a little jaded after watching all this time :] Who do you think will make the final 3 this season? I'm thinking Irina, Althea and Carol Hannah.
I like how you organized this recap :) As usual, I was drooling over Carol Hannah's design. I'm so glad she finally won a challenge, it was well deserved. I would definately say that the Carol Hannah-Logan thing is for real, I mean look at him! Lol. Personally, I would've liked to see Christopher go home, but I wouldn't be surprised if he left next week. I loved Nicolas's little comment about Irina :P so true only she's not a great designer

I adored Shirin so I was sad to see her go home. I think she deserved a second chance because this was only her first time in the bottom and she's done so well in the past.
Currently, I'm rooting for anyone but Irina. I don't see the need to be such a bitch all the time. Carol Hannah is my favorite and I am glad that she won her first one! It was well deserved.
