Do the Dewy Look

Posted by jinnyjinn on Jun 1, 2009
As you lighten up on the coats and sweaters this spring, it’s time to ease up on the makeup, too. But don’t worry. We’re not talking the stripped-down, fresh-from-hibernation look. This season of renewal is all about the rejuvenated dewy look. So say goodbye to the dark days of heavy foundation, matte powder, and bold lipstick and hello to the sunny style of a gorgeously radiant face. The best part? A look fresh from the Garden of Eden is a simple 10 steps away.

  1. Start with a blank slate: Get rid of dead winter skin by washing your face with a gentle exfoliating cleanser. Take a small amount and with wet fingertips and apply it with light pressure in small circles all over face and neck. Then rinse.
  2. Prepare your palette: Put a dollop of tinted moisturizer in your hand and spread evenly across your entire face and neck. Look for a brand with an SPF of 15 or higher; It’s never too early to defend your derma against harsh sunrays.
  3. Conceal: A fresh face requires an even look. If you’re got dark circles, pimples, or any other blemishes, mask ‘em now with concealer.
  4. Get even: If you have fairly even-toned skin, skip the foundation. However if you need more coverage, choose a lightly formulated liquid foundation—perhaps even one that has light-diffusing microcrystals to create luminosity.
  5. Touch up your tone: If your skin is still a bit uneven, throw on a little more concealer.
  6. Get cheeky: Glowing cheeks symbolize blushful youth. Release your inner innocent flirt by applying a cream bronzer to your cheekbones followed by a cheek tint on the “apples” of your cheeks. (If you don’t have cheek tint, dab a rosy lipstick onto the apples and blend it with your finger.)
  7. Take a brow: Mildly pronounced eyebrows help to subtly accentuate the eyes. Fill yours in using a light-colored eyeliner.
  8. Leverage your lashes: Know why Bambi looks so darned cute? Check out her lashes—and those of other adorable cartoon animals for that matter. They’re long, lush and flirty yet innocent and delicate. Apply a couple of coats of mascara and bat your eyes. See how cute you are?
  9. Put a lid on it: For a kiss of dew to your spring-fresh eyes, apply a smudge of lip gloss to your lids.
  10. Give lip service: Finally, apply a lip stain similar to the color of your own lips and finish off with a generous serving of gloss.

Ta-da! You’re doing the dew.

P.S. If you want to add more of a sun-kissed glow to your already luminous face, apply a little liquid bronzer on wherever the sun naturally falls upon your face—think your forehead, nose, and chin—and blend thoroughly.

I wish I could do my makeup like that every day! Great tips - I must try this out.

Have you tried putting lip gloss on your lids before? Sounds interesting.

Wow, cool! Thanks for that link.

I always want to look dewey but never do.... Will have to give this a shot!

@albee_d Yeah, me too. I just end up looking greasy. Not hot. Ha, ha.

Everyone seeking this look needs to try this product:

Its a pearly pink gel-ish cream. You apply to the cheekbones and near eyes. It gives youthful glow and does not look greasy at all! Def one of the best products I've bought in the last few years.

@ckalaydjian - great suggestion!!

@cklaydjian: I'm going to have to give this a shot - thanks!
