This Season’s Top Five Hairstyles

Posted by jinnyjinn on Apr 20, 2009
Flirting with the idea of changing things up in the hair department this spring? You’ve come to the right place! After scouring the latest rags, runway shows, and red carpet sightings, we found a range styles that are all the rage this season. Check out these five fabulous looks for your locks.

Tussled Tresses

You would think that the bed head look requires absolutely no work. If only it were that simple. The good news is that it doesn’t take much effort at all! Take your hair into sections from the crown and tease it a little. Then, finish your jazzed-up coif with a sheer light hair spray. To set some semi-permanence to this style, ask your hairdresser to cut longer layers on the sides of your face and in the back.

Bawdy Bob

The bob’s one popular cut. So popular, in fact, it’s back again this spring—perhaps because bob’s so versatile. Go urban-chic with a one-layered all-around bob (the “blunt cut”) or go sexy siren with angled layers in the front (the “angled cut”).

Rockin’ Retro Hair

Stars like Katy Perry and Drew Barrymore have been nodding nostalgic tresses evocative of the 40’s and 50’s with loose curls. To get on the same wavelength, roll two-inch sections of dry hair, starting from the top of your head and working your way to the lowest strands. Remove the curling iron, but keep the barrel curl close to your scalp. Spray a light hairspray and pin it with a double-pronged clip. After letting set for 20 minutes, remove clips and lightly brush out. [Remember: The smaller the section of hair you use, the tighter the curl.]

Bangin’ Bangs

Whether your hair is stick straight and long or a short bouncy bob, bangs could work wonders for you. Although blunt bangs are in, wispy bangs or ones angled to the side can add length to fuller faces or soften longer, sharper features—if done right. Work with your hair dresser to see which style suits you.

Perfect Pixy

Few ‘dos say “posh” like the pixie. This fresh cut turns heads, but it requires a lot of upkeep—so don’t even think about scrimping on regularly scheduled trims! Feather this cut with lots of fringe for a more fun, younger, edgier version on the pixy.

I love these ideas. I was considering getting a pixie cut but every time I am close to doing a new style I start loving my hair again.

Pixies can be super cute!

@gabba_a, I'm sort of the same way. That's why I try not to think too much before a cut. Usually when I do, I end up keeping the same thing. Last time I went in expecting to chop it, but my stylist (whom I've been seeing for over a decade) talked me out of it. I did add some significant layer, though, and have sort of a quasi-mullet now...which I sort of like. :)

@cristina - We HAVE to see that mullet! :-)

Let's see it!

I'll have to get a better picture. Right now I only have fresh-off-the-red-eye-from-CA-to-NYC pictures and my hair looks like it's two-day-old hair that I've tried sleeping on on an airplane. :)
