Cookie Jar Collecting

Okay, I'll admit it I am passionate about Collecting, but most specifically about my Cookie Jar Collecting. I have many hundreds of jars. And of course most of them were added since July of 1996 when I discovered eBay. The next year I decided to start a small email newsletter for Cookie Jar Collectors, it's still going strong and in the tenth year of publication. I also started working on About.com in 1997 as their Guide to Cookie Jars and then Collectibles. I cover a little bit of almost everything. It's a fun job and I'm glad I get to do it!

Cookie jars are a great collection to have, they always bring a smile to someone's face -- even if they're not a collector. And almost everyone remembers Mom's or Grandma's cookie jar.

If you're new to collecting jars there are a few tips to remember.
  • There are hundreds of jars out there, so always buy a jar that is in excellent condition, chips and cracks devaluate quite a bit. An exception would be the very rare or hard to find jar.

  • If you're looking for old or antique jars, educate yourself and don't get stuck with a reproduction or fake jar -- when you think you are buying the real McCoy.

  • Learn how to take care of and clean your pottery jars, e.g. don't put in a dishwasher.

  • But most of all enjoy your collecting!

Although I have a little bit of everything, the more jars I get, the more I try and specialize. Advertising, Disney, Christmas and Raggedy Ann jars are my favorites, although I do like to have a few from the different companies as examples.

Now onto my collection.

Alfano Man in the Moon

The Alfano Studios is no more, but their jars can still be found. Although I've had several of their jars, I've traded them away for others. This is one I couldn't give up! The jar was issued in 1993 - 1994 and is a limited edition of 100.

Commissioned by Roger Lewis, a personal friend of Parks, this terrific jar is a jewel in the collection. Parks was "tickled pink" with the results and you can see why. The jar is 13.5" high, 14" wide and extremely heavy. The back of the jar shows... See more more

I love the tropicana cookie jar.

It's a great jar and looks just like the real thing. You should see it next to my Stack of Pancakes jars from Aunt Jemima. You get hungry looking at them.
