Bring unique cosmopolitan flair into your home with one of our stunning Shipibo pottery pieces. The dramatic maze pattern is a traditional design element of Shipibo pottery and fabrics, representing their Ayahuasca-based cosmology. Despite hundreds of years of sporadic contact with Western civilization, they have managed to maintain their ancient shamanistic traditions and beliefs along with a sense of strong tribal identity. Each piece of pottery is unique and fired over an open, wood fire using traditional techniques. Choose: * Quémpo is the Shipibo name for a flaring bowl that is used to drink masato, a thick, yucca-based drink. The walls of this bowl are elegantly curved so that the rim is narrower than the waist. Quémpo pot measures approximately 5.5" T x 10.5" dia. (14 x 26.7 cm). * Mahueta is the Shipibo name for vases or large jars typically used to hold masato and other goods. Mahueta pot measures approximately 7.5" T x 10" dia. (19 x 25.4 cm). Because these pots are fired at a low heat, they do not hold water and are for decorative use only. Dyes are all-natural; each piece is handmade in and fair-trade imported from Peru.
