It was designed with teammate Eoin McNally in response to a brief to create a product which helps to combat the pressures of a "24 hour" lifestyle. The pillow uses an LED fabric substrate below the surface to wake the user using light. This substrate also functions as a display, showing the time on the pillows surface using the grid of LEDs below. 40 minutes before the pre-set alarm time the pillow begins to glow and gently brings the user out of sleep. This natural waking process helps to set the circadian rhythm or "body clock" and results in more healthy sleep/wake patterns. (04/30/09) If you've ever wanted to shoot your alarm clock, now you can! By our calculations, approximately 5 out of 7 days of the week start off with a rude awakening. Some awful noise pulls you out of your slumber and, if you're anything like us, you are more than ready to shoot whatever is making that terrible sound. Well, now you can. A laser beam aimed at the exact center of the target is the only way to turn off the alarm sound in the morning. When the laser hits the target the alarm is turned off for 24 hours and goes off at the same time the next day. The alarm will always do this until manually de-activated or the alarm time changes. When you wake up to an alarm and you have to concentrate to carefully aim the laser beam at the target, you'll be suitably awake so as not to easily fall back asleep. At least that's the theory, but we'll let you conduct the real world testing. Battery operated (not included). See less

The Room Tech Beingz - Temper Tantrum Throwing Alarm Clock ($50) is probably one of the most annoying and, at the same time, charming alarm clocks ever created. At first, it attempts to pre-awaken you gently by glowing about 5 minutes prior to the alarm. If the light doesn't do it, the initial alarm goes off and it taps its arms lightly. However, if you don't awaken and hit the snooze button within a minute, it gets really upset and throws a full scale raging temper tantrum. It goes crazy, pounds its fists and shouts and whines out its alarm for around an hour. I'm pretty sure this madness on my nightstand can stir me from my slumber. When not in its evil alarm...
